xasthur xasthur Contract Principles A property or liability xasthur policy is a "personal contract," a "conditional contract," a "contract of adhesion," a "contract of indemnity," and a contract which requires that the person insured have an insurable interest at the time of the insured-against contingency.
xasthur Contract of Adhesion Property and liability xasthur policies are said to be "contracts of adhesion" because the insurer and insured parties are of unequal bargaining power where the insured party cannot negotiate the terms of the contract and must take the offer of the insurer as made.
xasthur Contract of Indemnity Property and liability xasthur policies are said to be "contracts of indemnity" because the purpose of xasthur is to indemnify the insured.

Metal Storm - Xasthur - Subliminal Genocide
Xasthur is the quintessence of suicide, a woeful lament in the midst of nowhere as you lose yourself deeper and deeper in the fields of solitude and everlasting oblivion, forgotten, forlorn; dying.
Also, there are times Xasthur tend to sound quite upbeat if i may say (like on the title-track) when the time comes to compare the speed they get at times on "Subliminal Genocide" with the overall low-to-mid tempo legacy of the band.
The guitars consist half of Xasthur's atmosphere, it's the first side of the two-fold desolate beauty this band has to offer, the other one being the unearthly and painful howls that show their grandeur for one more time in the most appropriate way.

Transcending the Mundane: Interview with Xasthur
Xasthur is a highly prolific fl metal band from the West Coast.
Over the course of five full lengths, Xasthur has proven to be one of the most creative and emotional fl metal bands around.
Musically, with Xasthur, I believe so, with the rest of my life, I can certainly blame others, but technically it comes down to me only being able to point the finger at myself.

Infernal Fields - Interviews / Xasthur (via CobWeb/3.1 planet03.csc.ncsu.edu)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
I have contacted Malefic, the sole member of this very good project named Xasthur, and had a very interesting interview with an individual who demonstrates to have a right idea of Black Metal and its atmosphere.
Xasthur is your one man band, so I think it will be good if you can introduce it to all those don't know it: in particular, a thing that personally makes me curious is the meaning of the name, 'cause it's not the first time I hear it…
In some of Xasthur's songs, there's a strong use of keyboards to enphatise the obscure atmosphere of them, but, even if I absolutely hate their use in the most of BM bands, I can clearly say that in "Nocturnal Poisoning" they are really fascinating, and contributes so much to make the atmosphere dark and cold.

 ONSLAUGHT 004
A lot of reviews try to put Xasthur near Burzum, but I think that Xasthur is unique, i just found some little points that remind to me to the old (and great) Graveland, the sulphureous one.
Several months after the release of the brilliant “Nocturnal poisoning”, Malefic returns with his Xasthur - reduced now to a one-man band - with a 12” MLP in limited edition, 5 diabolical pieces called “Suicide in dark serenity”, and never was a title more accurate.
Varg Vikernes put the notes in the foreground; in Xasthur instead there is an all one of sounds and noises coming from hell, which filter opportunely through a minimal production, they go out like a scream of desperation and pain.

Xasthur — Subliminal Genocide   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
A track like “Prison of Mirrors” is not short in any sense of the term (the track almost breaks into a thirteen minute runtime), but the ability of Malefic to tell a story throughout each track (and by extension, the entirety of “Subliminal Genocide”) is without any fault.
At some point, it should not be much of a surprise that Xasthur is able to create such a compelling album; the band has cut five full length albums in as many years, and as such have been able to go and work out any burrs in their output.
Xasthur provides listeners with a flawless brand of metal that can do more with screams than masses of poets can do with their words.

Xasthur, on first listen I thought kind of boring and after awhile I looked up at the cd player because the music finally caught my attention and it was track seven, the Katatonia cover song, “Palace of Frost” just starting, sorry Malefic.
I would classify myself as not a fan yet I still have ten Xasthur releases, though splits were always because of the other bands, as is the case here.
Xasthur has put me back on the fence ready to jump onto the passing bandwagon with an inspired offering that took awhile to get into but was worth the effort.

Alas, at the time of this interview, Xasthur had recently released a new 12" mini-album, Suicide in Dark Serenity, which continues to expand 'n' exaggerate the man's already inscrutable vision of BM, and a split 7" with Nachtmystium for Blood Fire Death is already in the bag.
I would say that Xasthur can meet some - but not all - of the expectations of fl metal, because there will always be complainers and different points of view.
I don't care about meeting anyone's expectations – Xasthur is for those who seek suicide, misery, and the obscurity of old, nostalgic fl metal that will curse their state of mind...

If you ate nothing but the guts of ravens, the shells of beetles, and the wax from vinyl, your shit might slide down your pants dense and fl as night.
In the vein of newer fl metal bands like Leviathan, Xasthur churns out songs that mostly stay at a slow-tempo and are recorded in a way where it can be a chore to single out individual instruments.

Album Review XASTHUR-Nocturnal Poisoning :: Maelstrom :: Issue No 11
I'll have to do some checking, but look out for Xasthur to be my pick for best fl metal album of 2002.
Signed to Lord Imperial's (Krieg, Weltmacht) Blood Fire Death label, Xasthur has been around for a number of years but for a number of reasons hasn't been exposed to that many people, including myself.
Xasthur is in a way similar to Mutiilation in that both bands rely on a atmosphere that's apparent in the entire album.

Xasthur bring something of their own to the table in what can be a limited and limiting genre, especially these days.
The drums and vocals might sound a little too buried in the background, but they only help the guitars spew their mournful laments up front over everything else, which is fitting seeing how this record mostly focuses on atmosphere.
It is a pleasure to see that in thia age and day bands are still producing fl metal of the highest caliber devoid of any outside influence or irrelevant progression.

In Music We Trust - Xasthur: Telepathic With The Deceased
Xasthur is a one-man band, and a bitter one at that.
Frustrated California evil monger turned musical visionary, Xasthur's Telephatic with the Deceased is eerily atmospheric, as this 10-track disc sounds off as Trent Reznor would had he had delved deeper into the occult.
While Xasthur throws in the occasional blast-beated epic metal opus, the majority of the release is ridden with synthesized paganism much like Danzig's Black Aria, furthering the belief that evil does indeed stand alone.

Turner is quite the aficionado of fl metal, and in addition to other underground roster additions for the label, the signing of Xasthur really makes sense.
That, and simply because Xasthur is one of the absolute best when it comes to this style of fl metal.

But if you want to argue, Xasthur is really a tangled webbed structure weaving through the fl metal schematic, more-so than a traditional artist of the genre.
Yet while influenced heavily by the truest and flest (Burzum, Beherit), the Xasthur demographic is much more than corpse-paint and battleaxes.
Hot off the heels of the Twilight super-group project, and in the middle of label limbo, Subliminal Genocide expertly defines itself, clarity not withstanding, as the record compared to the bulk of Malefic’s material is decidedly clear, yet ever so demure in it’s soul-raping cacophony.

Xasthur: Subliminal Genocide: Pitchfork Record Review (via CobWeb/3.1 planet03.csc.ncsu.edu)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Strange things are a foot in the bowels of hell: After more than a decade of eluding non-metal ears, Xasthur has stepped outside the extreme music tinderbox for his bone-rattling fifth album, Subliminal Genocide.
Comprised solely of Scott Conner, aka Malefic, Xasthur's U.S. fl metal first received crossover attention for contributions to Sunn 0)))'s Black One: Malefic's coffined presence, along with vocal work by fellow Twilight traveler Leviathan (aka Wrest), is a huge part of what catapulted that album to acclaim.
Three cheers for variation, but Xasthur's always sounded best clogging up, possessing, and devouring space: see "Beauty Is Only Razor Deep"-- drums become gentle directive lulls into a flanged choir of fallen angels (housed in a salt-cast beehive).

While there's no denying that he shares a certain doomed aesthetic with the Grimm Robed ones, his output as Xasthur relies less on ceremonial pretense than it does on cold, bleak atmospherics and the claustrophobic rage that underpins much of the violence inherent in our modern age.
After tasting the fruits of critical and (relative) commercial success, it would have been easy for Malefic to draft in Anderson and O'Malley and reimagine the cinematic dirge of Black One in order to suit his own purposes.
This is fl metal from the surface of the sun-blissed out and buried, ceremonial and desolate and built of equal parts damnation and redemption.

A diabolic crafting of melodies and sinister riffing that creates the perfect soundtrack to a long descent into the lost depths of a flened void." Xasthur, at least here, is less damning than Nortt, but perhaps only slightly so.
Dissonance is at a premium and the ambient effect of the guitar is almost calming, though the use of a drum machine takes away from the overall experience.
The vibe given off by Xasthur's share of this split is akin to a Twin Peaks soundtrack stuck in slow motion.

Yes, this band has always been my vision, there's no fl metal "scene" out there, everyone's a trendy I admit the name "Xasthur" was taken from the Necronomicon paperback, a witch-like demoness that kills people in their sleep, in the night, unseen.

Trots sina brister så är ”Telepathic With The Deceased” fortfarande ett bra album, inte det bästa XASTHUR har släppt, men ändå av god kvalité och musik som passar bra till en mörk och regnig kväll ensam hemma.
The other thing that I don’t really like is that the bass has been lost somewhere in the process, which creates a too hollow sound and not the depth that the music would have needed.
Despite its faults “Telepathic With The Deceased” is still a good album, not the best one XASTHUR has released, yet still of good quality and this is music that is perfect for a dark and rainy night when you’re home alone.

Having been previously released by the charmingly monikered Total Holocaust Records as a limited edition run of 1000, Southern Lord have braved the dark to repress this split LP from Xasthur and Norrt.
Accompanied by some unintentionally hilarious photos (stop scaring me with your stage paint faces!), America's Xasthur open with 'A Curse For the Lifeless', wherein they establish their strict dogma of baroque guitars and piquant piano that is nowhere near as punishing as you may imagine, falling well clear of Sunn O)))'s caliginous compositions.
In contrast to Xasthur's accessibility, Denmark's Nortt are more obtuse, with a sound akin to Thergothon and a seriousness which sees them listing their song writing credits as 'Mournful Tones and Poems of Death'.

For those into ultra-depressive, slow fl metal, Xasthur's _Nocturnal Poisoning_ must certainly have been one the highlights of recent years.
This new record is grimmer as far as the production is concerned, it has an instantly recognizable sound that is even harsher and colder than before, but it lacks memorable songs and the same kind of hooks that lurked in the dirges of _Nocturnal Poisoning_.
In comparison to _NP_ this is sadly redundant and probably superfluous for everyone but the most rabid Xasthur lunatics.
