SOUTH END — With decided hope and optimism, the Brothers of St. Francis Xavier closed their year-long celebration of 150 years of service in the United States with a Mass at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross followed by a reception on April 30.
Brother Francis had been invited by the founder to leave the order and Brother Stephen was a tailor who had been sent to help with the domestic needs of the community, he said.
Brother Daniel Skala, headmaster at Xaverian Brothers High, said the faces and the circumstances of the brothers in America have changed, but the vision has stayed the same for the past 150 years.

BOSTON — About 400 Catholic school students, parents, teachers, and administrators gathered in the Great Hall of the State House March 19 to let their state representatives know how important Catholic education is to them.
During the annual rally, sponsored by the Parents Alliance for Catholic Education (PACE), guest speakers described different aspects of Catholic schools, and pleaded for those present to inform their state representatives of the need for continued funding for Catholic education.
Cathedral High School senior James Lahens, who was chosen to speak about the significance of Catholic education in his life, told the rally that he has learned many valuable lessons from attending a Catholic school for the past seven years.

As I write this letter, summer school has come and gone, and the custodial staff is getting the school in good shape for the opening of the 2006-7 school year.
Although these Xaverian charisms have over the past 43 years permeated the ordinary daily life of the school community, it is our aim this year to help all administrators, faculty, staff and students to be able to articulate how the charisms are reflected in or are affected by their daily lived experience here.

 Pilot Stories - 3/28/2003 - Natick man honored for support of Catholic schools
According to Brother Robert Green, Headmaster of Malden Catholic High School, the renovation of the athletic facility was entirely Donovan’s idea.
The newly renovated field at Malden Catholic will be named “Donovan Field at Brother Gilbert Stadium” in memory of Donovan’s father, James R. Donovan, a 1937 graduate of Malden Catholic who worked as a custodian at the school in the 1950s and 1960s.
Once the scholarship was established, Donovan became more involved with the school until, in 2002, Xaverian General Superior Brother Arthur Caliman, CFX, appointed him to the Board of Trustees, where he currently chairs the development committee.
