AUSTIN, TEXAS - Xavier Rodriguez, a 1987 graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, was appointed to the Texas Supreme Court by Gov. Rick Perry on Tuesday.
Rodriguez is the second UT Law grad nominated to the high court this year, only five months after the appointment of Wallace Jefferson, a 1988 UT Law graduate and the first African-American justice to serve on the Texas Supreme Court.
Rodriguez is a partner in the San Antonio law firm of Fulbright and Jaworski and practices in the areas of labor and employment law and general litigation.

 UT Law Alumni Appointed to Federal Judgeships in Texas
Judge Rodriguez was nominated to the bench by President George W. Bush on May 1 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on July 31.
Rodriguez, a partner with Fulbright & Jaworski and a former Texas Supreme Court justice, officially began his federal judicial duties on Aug. 18 in the San Antonio division of the Western District of Texas.

U.S. District Judge Xavier Rodriguez rejected the claims by the society and individual residents that the deer are part of their 'property' and trapping and removing them would violate their fourth amendment rights against illegal search and seizure.
Judge Rodriguez also rejected claims by the residents that the trapping process violates due process, and that it will be 'inhumane and illegal.'
He pointed out that the city's own ordinance and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department permit which will allow the trapping to proceed specifically requires that the trapping be done in a 'humane' manner, and specifically prohibits the community from trapping deer while they are on private property, without the permission of the landowner.
