Xexanoth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Xexanoth is a fictional character from Clark Ashton Smith's Cthulhu Mythos work.
It appears only once in "The Chain of Aforgomon", where it is summoned by the main character.
Apparently, Xexanoth is the bane and mortal enemy of the time god Aforgomon and, because of Aforgomon likely being an avatar of the Outer God Yog-Sothoth, is probably an Elder or Outer God.

Dimly I heard the prompting of Atmox, and dimmer still was the sound of my own voice that made answer to Xexanoth, naming the impious necromancy which was to be effected only through its power.
As the words ceased upon my lips, I thought that darkness fluttered in the air like a great wing; and the four suns went out, and my heart was stilled as if in death.
I was still weak with the loss of blood I had yielded to Xexanoth; my senses were full of strange shadows; my servitors, coming and going about me, were as phantoms, and scarcely I heeded the pale fear in their eyes or heard the dreadful things they whispered....

 Mnemoka By Clark Ashton Smith
Little is known regarding "Mnemoka's" composition: references to it have yet to appear in Smith's correspondence.
Thematically this tale is similar to "The Chain of Aforgomon," in which a character calls upon the Lurking Chaos Xexanoth to recall a flown hour with his beloved, and to "The Last Incantation," wherein Malygris the mage seeks to resurrect his first love, and to recapture his innocent past.
The theme of "loss"—the loss of a loved one, of a bright and beautiful past, of some ecstatic state of beingtis a very important one in Smith's fiction and poetry.

Dark Denizens of Dreams and Beyond By Scott David Aniolowski
Clark Ashton Smith is considered by many to be one of the key contributors to Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, and is best known for the creation of his toad-god, Tsathogghua.
Other Mythos-like entities created by Smith include the White Worm Rlim Shaikorth, Knygathin Zhaum, Ubbo-Sathla, the Great Ghoul Mordiggian, Xexanoth, and Aforgomon.
Not all Cthulhu Mythos fans or Lovecraft purists will agree with the classification of these creatures as part of the Cthulhu pantheon, and Keepers are urged to use or ignore these entities as fits his or her campaigns.
