RedOrbit NEWS | The debate on human nature in early Confucian literature
According to the second reading (dynamic value), xing indicates the natural process of growth that is identified with life itself, a process that can be given specific direction toward good or evil according to the ability of the individual to appropriate codified ethical values and behavioral rules that are completely extraneous to the human spirit.
Xing is born of yang, and qing of yin.
In slip 4, after having affirmed that hao wu xing ye, "love and hate, this is [human] nature," the text uses the expression shan bu [shan xing ye], "goodness and lack of [goodness, this is human nature]." The mutilated text allows us nonetheless to infer that the object of scrutiny is once again xing.

Xing Xing finds joy in writing calligraphy and poetry into the sky, in visiting the beautiful carp, in the beauty of a painted pottery shard, and in the green dress and very special pair of slippers her mother secretly left behind for her.
Xing Xing is a little bland in comparison, though her conflicting desires to conform to social norms for women and to find her own voice make her a likable heroine who, though forward thinking, is not jarringly anachronistic.
Xing Xing's only companion is the beautiful white carp that lives in a pond near their cave; it seems to embody the spirit of her mother, who had always cherished Xing Xing despite popular cstoms of the time dictating that neither parent should regard a girl child as valuable.

A mere notion of how a non-coercive society can be worked out amounts, to a castle in the sand should it be without a concrete program for moving from the present coercive reality to the non-coercive ideal.
Here the ideal society should be one without even the minimal ruler-ship of the State, one in which only the very basic form of a society is retained.

Generally speaking, it was in the period of the Wei and Jin dynasties that the theory of China's literature and art truly became independent as a branch of learning, and by that time the idea of "integrating feeling with theory" already emerged.
Since philosophy is a science of the most general laws of nature, society and human thought presented in the form of abstractions, the development of the content of philosophical thought is therefore a history of the continuous advancement of concepts and categories and of their continuous clarification, enrichment and growth.
We should study how concepts and categories were advanced in the history of philosophy, how their contents became clearer, richer and more systematic, and how the categorical system became more complicated, more comprehensive and more systematic; we should conduct a concrete analysis of the development of concepts and categories.
