Re: ex11, plotting and Cairo ...
Hi Vlad, Xming troubles can be solved with RTFM I think.
Removing access control (-ac) allows me to send an xterm display to Xming so it does work in priciple, albeit forgoing a secure connection I think.
Xming -ac -internalwm -engine 2 I agree that the X11 protocol is a superset of what is strictly necessary for simple graphics, and the extensions even more so.

 freedesktop.org - Xming
Because Xming and Cygwin/X are very common many solutions from the Cygwin/X Troubleshooting page apply to Xming too.
Xming -fp "C:/Program Files/Xming/fonts/misc/,C:/Program Files/Xming/fonts/TTF/, C:/Program Files/Xming/fonts/Type1/,C:/Program Files/Xming/fonts/CID/, C:/Program Files/Xming/fonts/75dpi/,C:/Program Files/Xming/fonts/100dpi/, C:/Program Files/Xming/fonts/windows" -multiwindow -clipboard
Xming does not depend on any external package while Cygwin/X is closely bound into the package structure of Cygwin.

I know what's causing the second but I'm not sure which of the two solutions (hiding the actual X11 window or preventing Xming from receiving pointer positions outside of it's windows) is the best.
Since the Xorg CVS is getting near a new release there may be an actual "stable" release soon.
Saved configurations can be used as preset with xlaunch -load configfile and with xlaunch -run configfile for direct start.

If it wasn't for the daily chore of answering loadsa mail (of which I am guilty myself of many a lazy plea for help when I should RFM), I'd have a go myself at running, at least part, of the shop.
I currently am set up to build phreads 2-7-0 and Xming (current CVS xorg) cross compiled using:- MinGW (binutils-2.15.91-20040904-1 gcc-core-3.4.2-20040916-1 gcc-g++-3.4.2-20040916-1 mingw-runtime-3.7 w32api-3.2 ++) on a Mandrake 10.2 based linux machine.
