  >Adding Zest to Summer's Bounty: Part II - Tropical Fruit Accents for Meat, Fish or Fowl - MEXICAN COOKING - COCINA ...
The Aztecs, in particular, were avid consumers of fruit and had a wide vocabulary of words to describe the various tastes, textures and stages of ripeness.
Xocotl is alive and well in the form of xoconostle, the sour cooking variety of cactus fruit that is used in such indigenous dishes as caldo de charral, a fish broth from the Lake Patzcuaro region of Michoacan, and mixiotes de nopales from the Sierra region of Puebla.
These dishes are wonderful examples of the purely indigenous cooking, still found in certain parts of the country, which reflects the creative use of fruit by the pre-Hispanic people of Mexico.

"Charlie-Foxtrot," muttered Sailor Xocotl as she took in the reports, from Sapphire's intent to fire and subsequent weapons release to damage estimates from the four involved combatants; the ignored hail being the least of her worries.
Sailor Xocotl allowed the faintest of smiles to creep back on her face as the DK battleship slowed and began to slew about, meandering in a most un-starship-like way.

Dale Hoyt Palfrey - Mexico conjurs spirits with picturesque ofrendas
In the pre-Hispanic era the Aztecs honored their dead with celebrations tied in with the harvest season.
The ancient calendar called for festivities in remembrance of deceased children, called Miccailhuitontli (Little Feast for the Dead), around mid-August, immediately followed by Hueymiccaihuitl (Great Feast for the Dead) and Xocotl Huetzi (Falling of Fruit).
Conserving some aspects of these annual rituals, but linking them instead to the observance of All Saints Day, November 1, and All Souls Day, November 2, was a factor that helped early Spanish missionaries successfully bring about the conversion of Mexico's indigenous people to the Christian religion.
