  Metropolis Records: Xorcist
In 1990, several years of sonic experimentaton later, Xorcist was forged and would go on to set musical standards in the gothic and industrial scenes throughout the world.
The style of Xorcist didn't fall under any one musical style and was described through the years as cyber-industrial, EBM, electro-goth, darkwave, or any other one of the many monikers of the gothic and industrial scene.
Xorcist's 1999 release Nomad has been compared to the likes of Enigma, Danny Elfman and Delirium and already has piqued the interest of various motion picture and production studios.

Composed of Bat (born Peter Stone), Xorcist became a forerunner in the electro-goth circuit throughout the '80s and '90s, releasing six albums and a handful of singles between 1991 and 1999.
What made Xorcist so popular was the incredible mixing of various industrial and goth rock threads; the music couldn't be wholly defined.
Xorcist, who was signed to Metropolis as of early 2000, released Insects & Angels Difference & Indifference later that fall.

San Francisco's Xorcist (actually just Peter Stone, who goes by the name "Bat") specializes in "torture tech," the most brutal, unrelenting form of industrial music.
On the Bitches EP, Xorcist briefly takes a break from all the pain and chaos long enough to do a whimsical industrial version of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" that must be heard to be believed.
As with other Xorcist releases, Phantoms unleashes nightmare-inducing chaos in powerful portions.

Xorcist currently has an album out, "Damned Souls," as well as an ep, "Bitches." The CD version of the latter also includes "Smells Like Teen Spirit," a cover of the Nirvana song that Bat did for the Re-Constriction "Shut Up Kitty" compilation.
Xorcist is pretty much just myself, not because I don't want to work with anyone else, but because if you want something done right, you better do it yourself.
The 'spirit' aspect had a natural Xorcist ring to it, and I already had samples for it from 6 months ago during a sample-fest...

Xorcist at first was just another EBM type album I believe, yet it may have possessed (no pun intended) a bit more of a melodic structure to it then other music of its type-perhaps not so aggressive in places where as a lot of other releases of the time were very “in your face”.
Over time, Xorcist really was beginning to develop more of a soundtrack vibe and I think the “scene” (industrial/gothic) is not really where Xorcist should have planted its roots.
I think the next Xorcist release may be the last in the “genre” per se.

 Xorcist -- Nomad
Xorcist has certainly gone into somewhat of a different direction with his sixth release to date, Nomad.
Added however on this release, is more melody written into a number of the tracks, lyrics that are quite thoughtful in terms of "having a sense of universal meaning", with an angelic and questioning nature surrounding the entire CD and beautiful female mantric type vocals.
Nomad is certainly a release for fans of Xorcist to have in their collection.

Xorcist still retains all of it's DIY feel but it has also benefited from years of studio work and live performances.
Peter still continues to use vocal modifications on most the tracks but he has expanded to using several different filters and compression schemes so that we are not forced to listen to the same alteration technique on every track.
Overall "Soul Reflection" is perhaps the best Xorcist release to date with just enough variety and consistency to please past, present and future Xorcist fans.

With a mix of tight beats and flows that reflect the reason that X-Raided is in prison, "Xorcist" is perhaps Raided's best album.
The lyrics themselves reflect the gangsta life that eventually led to Raided's convinction of murder.
Raided's dark image of a killer is emphasized through tracks like "Wit a Mask On" and "Liquor, Niggaz, Triggaz." Raided attempts to give his side of the story about his murder case with "Duece 5 to Life," which gives a convincing story of Raided's struggle to be aquitted of his murder charge.

Parts of "Insects and Angels" would work beautifully in a horror flick, while other songs are more fitting for, say, adventure movies or thrillers.
Xorcist, with only member Bat, is a very talented score composer, proving his skills well here through varied, complex electronic sounds.
But as often is the case with soundtracks, this would reach its best potential integrated with film.

What appears to be a total remastering of the older tracks is a definite plus for the album as most compilation of past work tend to leave the work is it's original state which often lack the benefits of the technological upgrade.
The musical style is in the same vein as all the Xorcist's previous work, hard driving synth work meshed with a plethora of samples and a multi level programmed style that gives the music a unique sound of which no fair comparison could be made between Xorcist and any other band.
Definitely pick this album up if you haven't and if you are ever in the San Francisco area find where the House of Usher is currently residing and maybe you'll be lucky enough to catch Xorcist on a night when they are performing.

Amazon Review - Phantoms, Xorcist CD This is the album that got me started on Xorcist and it is still their best.
Most of the "compositions" take some time to develop, but the layering of sounds and the approprite effects(women screaming, samples from 70's horror movies) build into a rather seamless soundtrack that doesn't seemed forced or melodramatic like most of the gothic music I have heard.
The genre for this album has been described as cyberdustrial, so if you like laetherstrip, joy division's "Closer," and you think Marilyn Manson is an egotistical poseur than you should like this.
