  Can Xue
Chinese author Can Xue (whose real name is Deng Xiaohua) is the only woman associated with the male-dominated avant-garde school that emerged in China around 1985 and includes such authors as Mo Yan, Yu Hua, and Su Tong.
Born in Changsha in 1953, Can Xue suffered when her parents were condemned as ultra-rightists in 1957.
Through the Cultural Revolution period, she was raised by her grandmother and was often on the brink of starvation.

The "Xue Long" was previously known as the "Snow Dragon".
The 19th Chinare Expedition departed Shanghai on 20th November, 2002 on board "Xue Long" and arrived at Lyttelton on Sunday 8th of December, 2002.
The "Xue Long" is shown at left at No 2 West Wharf in the inner Lyttelton Harbour on December 9th, 2002.

Xue Jinghua (born October 7,1946) (Chinese: 藛菁华; pinyin: XÅ«e JÄ«nghúa) is a Chinese ballerina who was cast in the now internationally well-known Red Detachment of Women of the National Ballet of China as Wu Qinghua, the heroine of the ballet for which she became a big-time prima ballerina.
What happened next was that Xue Jinghua was diagnosed with tuberculosis, and she was bedridden for the next five years.
In 1977, when Xue Jinghua was ready to return to the stage, she experienced her political troubles: she was suspected to be related to the Gang of Four who had seen their downfall in 1976, and an investigation begun.
