Y Tu Mama Tambien is acted so naturally by its stars (Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna and Maribel Verdu) and directed so intimately that to be pulled away every five minutes for another observation by the narrator is off-putting.
I believe that Y Tu Mama Tambien is a timeless story, and so well told, that it has the potential to become a pillar of an emerging Mexican New Wave.
Although Y Tu is one of only two prominent Mexican films of recent memory (Amores Perros being the other), there are other signs that our neighbours to the south are growing into their cinematic skin.

But, I felt these elements were there just because that is part of the life of the people at the center of the film rather than that they were driving force of the film in the way that they are in films like AMERICAN PIE.
