 Yacas for EPOC
YACAS consists of approximately 22000 lines of C++ code and 13000 lines of scripting code, with 170 functions defined in the C++ kernel and 600 functions defined in the scripting language.
The main advantages of YACAS are: free (GPL) software; a flexible and easy-to-use programming language with a comfortable and adjustable syntax; cross-platform portability (Unix, Windows, Macs, EPOC32, etc.) and small resource requirements; and extensibility.
As Yacas has been developed from 1999, the releases have steadily implemented more code (in C++ and in the form of Yacas scripts), so it is continuously being larger in RAM usage.

Using programs like Maple, Macsyma (now Maxima) and Mathematica, including some open source programs like yacas, it is now possible to visualize concepts such as modular forms which were only accessible to the mathematical imagination before this.

Now the interfaces to Maple, Pari/GP, and Yacas work, but they are not exhaustively tested; for the complete implementation of the interfacess to the other CASes are still missing most of the descriptions relatives to the conversion of objects from Gap to the interfaced CASes and from them back to Gap.
If an interface to a CAS uses OpenMath, then the interface will support only the types of objects that are supported, in a compatible way, by the OpenMath implementations of both Gap and the CAS.
Both for Yacas and Gap, the OpenMath encoding is used only for the objects passed as arguments, and not for the function in the interfaced CAS.

Infinitesimals are used when appropriate, and are treated more rigorously than in old books like Thompson's Calculus Made Easy, but in less detail than in Keisler's Elementary Calculus: An Approach Using Infinitesimals.
Numerical examples are given using the open-source computer algebra system Yacas, and Yacas is also used sometimes to cut down on the drudgery of symbolic techniques such as partial fractions.
Proofs are given for all important results, but are often relegated to the back of the book, and the emphasis is on teaching the techniques of calculus rather than on abstract results.
