	Yad Vashem - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Yad Vashem (יד ושם) is Israel's official memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust established in 1953 through the Memorial Law passed by the Knesset, Israel's parliament.
		In 1993, the Yad Vashem institute decided to build a new, larger museum to replace the old, smaller museum, which was built during the 1960's.
		For example, a small garden and plaque on the grounds of Yad Vashem is dedicated to the people of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon in France who, during World War II, made their town a haven for Jews fleeing from the Nazis.

	Yad Vashem
		Yad Vashem, the national Authority for the Remembrance of the Martyrs and Heroes of the Holocaust, was established in 1953 by act of the Knesset (Israel’s parliament) to commemorate the six million Jewish men, women and children murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators during the years 1933-1945.
		The task of Yad Vashem is to perpetuate the memory and lessons of the Holocaust for future generations.

		On Sept. 19, YAD officials decided to join Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Life, an umbrella group for Jewish programs at more than 150 colleges in the United States and Canada.
		Financially, YAD - which serves Emory University, University of Georgia, Georgia Institute of Technology and Georgia State University - had been having a tough year, as the Jewish Federation of Atlanta reduced its funding by two percent and donations are lagging in a tired economy.

		Featuring a soaring cone with 600 photos of victims and a lower cone dug into the bedrock and filled with reflecting water, the memorial is surrounded by circular shelves with 2 million pages of testimony filled out by relatives of those who died.

		I have come to Yad Vashem to pay homage to the millions of Jewish people who, stripped of everything, especially of human dignity, were murdered in the Holocaust.
