Yad Vashem (יד ושם) is Israel's official memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust established in 1953 through the Memorial Law passed by the Knesset, Israel's parliament.
In 1993, the Yad Vashem institute decided to build a new, larger museum to replace the old, smaller museum, which was built during the 1960's.
For example, a small garden and plaque on the grounds of Yad Vashem is dedicated to the people of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon in France who, during World War II, made their town a haven for Jews fleeing from the Nazis.

In Yad WaShem, over the entrance to the labyrinth built in commemoration of the 1 500 000 Jewish children murdered, you can read a quotation from Proverbs 20:27: "The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord." In the labyrinth, a candle light is reflected by thousands of mirrors.
Yad WaShem is open from Sunday to Thursday from 9 am to 5 pm, and on Friday from 9 am to 2 pm.
Directly beside Yad WaShem, on the road "Sderot Herzl" is Mount Herzl with its north entrance towards the military cemetary and its south entrance towards the Herzl Museum, the Herzl grave and the graves of important figures of the State of Israel and the memorial to the victims of terrorism.

 Holocaust word
In no case in these early years at Yad Vashem does "h/Holocaust" appear to be intended to convey any sense of religious sacrifice.
Three early uses of the uppercased "Holocaust" at Yad Vashem are suggestive of the forces encouraging capitalization of the word when used as a referent to the Jewish catastrophe.
Yad Vashem in the 1950s and 1960s officially favored including within the boundaries of the term all the Nazi government's anti-Semitic actions and thus favored a 1933 date for the beginning of the Holocaust.

 September 1998
Considerable controversy has arisen over the attempt to have Dietrich Bonhoeffer commemorated in the Avenue of the Righteous Gentiles in the Yad Washem Martyrs' Memorial gardens on the outskirts of Jerusalem, as reported in the latest issue of the International Bonhoeffer Society's Newsletter.
In the view of those disappointed by Yad Washem's response so far, there seems to be a built-in reluctance in Jerusalem to honour the members of the German resistance, even when they were clearly opposed to Hitler's crimes, including the murder of the Jews, for the noblest of moral reasons, as Bonhoeffer undoubtedly was.
And, in Yad Washem's eyes, Bonhoeffer is principally to be honoured for his defiant stance against the Nazis' persecution of the church, and for his challenge to the entrenched anti-Judaism of so many of his Lutheran brethren.

The Forum of the 1.Jagdmoroner Abteilung - The Poles Got Screwed
If you want to read about Jedwabne in English, there is an article on the Yad Washem website, written by mother of my two personal friends, Anna Bikont, Polish Jew herself.
Unfair thing in that article is that Anna Bikont makes impression that this small group of antisemitic extremists is equally important and visible as great majority of Poles and our state and church authorities.
When Jew survivors came back after the war some people didn't wanted to give back the houses or properties (like Swiss Banks...) and sometimes conflicts were "solved" by the ordinary murders - which is great, great shame, but Polish nation and govt never accepted that and treated it as crime.

 Newsletter no 12 - January 1996
Particularly helpful are the plethora of names, addresses and dates of those who shared in this significant inter-faith enterprise, such as the young Wladyslaw Bartoszewski, most recently Poland's Foreign Minister, or the redoubtable Mother Superior, Borkowska, who not only hid arms in her convent but instructed young Jews how to use them.
On the basis of personal interviews with survivors, both recuers and rescued, the authors give some poignant case studies, and document their efforts over many eyars to bring recognition to this small but indomitable band of Christian women and men, many of whom have now been recognized by such institutions as Yad Washem in Israel.
Given the draconian measure taken against any Poles who risked their lives in this endeavour, the rescue efforts of Polish Christians and the resistance of Polish Jews were remarkably heroic, and deserve to be better known.
