The Yadkin Valley wine region, formally known as the Yadkin Valley American Viticultural Area, is a relatively new wine-growing region in northwestern North Carolina.
The native grapes of this region of the southeastern United States are the muscadine and the scuppernong.
The Yadkin Valley area is in the piedmont and foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and some have compared the grape-growing conditions of the area to France's Burgundy.

The 4th Annual Yadkin Valley Wine Festival was held on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at the Elkin Municipal Park in Elkin, North Carolina.
They were instrumental in getting the Yadkin Valley established as the first American Viticultural Area in North Carolina and also for their work with gaining grants for the viticulture program at Surry Community College and establishing a store in the Charlotte Airport that sells only Yadkin Valley wines.
The award is in the form of a large, professional wine bottle opener and "is emblematic of the Sheltons' efforts to uncork the economic potential of the Yadkin Valley," Osborne said.

To the East and South of the Yadkin Valley region (which comprises primarily Wilkes, Surry and Yadkin Counties), the growing season is longer but summer heat and humidity play a significant role in being able to harvest healthy grapes with sufficient sugars and good acids and pH.
