 Yakovlev Yak-3
As early as 1941 Yakovlev was considering means whereby he could wring the highest possible performance out of the basic Yak-1 design.
To show what the Yak-3 could do when bravely handled, despite its armament - which was trivial compared with that of the German fighters - on 14th July 1944 a force of 18 met 30 Luftwaffe fighters and destroyed 15 for the loss of one Yak-3.
The production Yak-3 was further refined by a thick coat of hard-wearing wax polish, and after meeting the new fighter during the mighty Kursk battle in the summer of 1943 the Luftwaffe recognised it had met its match.

 Yakovlev Yak-9
The series of Yakovlev fighters, which originated with the Yak-1 of 1941, was one of the most important families of combat planes built by the Soviet Union during World War 11.
This improved the performance of the aircraft remarkably, increasing the maximum speed of 372 mph (600 km/h) at 11,482 ft (3,500 m) achieved by the Yak-9 D to approximately 434 mph (700 km/h) at 18, 092 ft (5,500 m).
In this model, Yakovlev substantially renewed the airframe, redesigning its entire basic structure (which became all-metal, like its covering) and remarkably improving its aerodynamic lines.

 Yak-18 Max - Russian Aircraft Museum - Bearcraft-onLine.com
The Yakovlev construction Bureau might well be one of the most experienced construction bureaus of Russia, as it developed all kinds of aircraft over the years.
During Sovjet times, the construction bureau headed by Alexander Yakovlev (born March 19, 1906) might has been the least known design bureau for commercial airliners, as it focussed mainly on light aircraft and short range jetliners that were used rarely on international flights to Western Europe.
On the other hand, a small number of the Yak 40 could be exported to operators in Italy and Western Germany, a stunt that no other commercial airliner of the URSS ever managed to achieve to the present.

 The IAK-52 Story
Among the aircraft manufacturers from the former USSR, the OKB A.S. Yakovlev developed a wide range of types, from small light trainers (UT-2, Yak-18, Yak-50,-52,-53,-54,-55), to fighters equipped with piston engines (Yak-1,-3,-7,-9) or jet engines (Yak-15,-17, -19, -21,-23,-25,-28), including VTOL fighters (Yak-36,-38,-141) and to business/regional transport aircraft (Yak-40, Yak-42).
It was handed-over to the Soviets after the official reception flight performed on July 22,1978 by Dmitri Mitikov, test pilot of Yakovlev OKB.
Although the intergovernmental agreement provisions allowed deliveries of the aircraft to Eastern Block countries, after completing the deliveries to the USSR, due to the huge quantity order by the Soviets, they were the only customers of the aircraft during that period.
