This study was carried out on the walnut cultivars Bilecik, Yalova 1, Yalova 3 and Yalova 4 to compare propagation and sapling quality of walnut with patch budding at dormant season in Tokat province ecological conditions.
Successful budding ratios in walnut varieties were found as 90 % with Bilecik, 85 % with Yalova 1, 88 % with Yalova 3 and 90 % with Yalova 4.
While Yalova 1 variety gave the best height (244.5 cm) growth, Yalova 4 variety gave the lowest height (179.7 cm) and diameter (17.28 mm) growth.

The present study was conducted on chestnut trees in Bursa Province and Atatürk Central Horticultural Research Institute in Yalova Province in Turkey during 1995-1996.
At the end of the study, it was determined that the infected trees by the Cryphonectria parasitica cancer were 70%, 30% and 100% in Cumalikzk, Hamamlkzk and Babasultan villages in the Bursa Province, respectively.
In addition, the sensitivities of some Turkish chestnuts cultivars to the most virulent isolate of the pathogen was determined and it was found in spite of the fact that Osmanoðlu and Firdula cultivars were more sensitive, Vakit Kestanesi and Dursun Kestanesi were more resistant.

Izmit was hardest hit with 480 dead and 200 injured; Istanbul has reported 157 dead and 3,726 injured; Yalova province sustained 220 deaths and 500 injured persons, and Adapazari has reported 500 dead and 600 injured.
Press sources report that electricity is being restored piecemeal; Anatolian press agency also reports, however, that the main east-west transmission line collapsed in the Duzce Prefecture of Bolu province (150 miles east of Istanbul).

AIR engineers conducted sample block surveys in the cities of Ciftlikkoy, Yalova, and Cinarcik in the Yalova province, the city of Duzce in the Bolu province, and the city of Izmit in the province of Kocaeli to assess general levels of damage severity.
As shown in the map below, buildings in the surveyed cities sustained varying levels of damage from negligible to total collapse.
