It was not until the end of the eighth century that the Nara authorities had penetrated deeply into Iwate, with Fort Shiwa, to the north of present day Morioka, constructed in 803.
Iwate faces the Pacific Ocean to the east, and borders Aomori Prefecture on the north, Akita Prefecture on the west, and Miyagi Prefecture on the south.

 MARINE FISH CULTURE IN JAPAN
Yamada Bay is completely enclosed except for a narrow entrance where the water is reported to be 90 m deep.
The objective of these experiments at Yamada Bay which was visited in October 1971 is to perfect methods which could be used commercially to rear salmon to marketable size in the sea.
These experiments are being repeated at Yamada to develop procedures for increasing growth rate during the time that the fish are held in tanks on shore.

 My Sons (Musuko) Film Review - Time Out Film
Yamada, director of the endless 'Tora-san' series, called this his homage to Ozu, and it's true that the focus on parental expectations and filial obligations is Ozu-esque, as are a few of the images.
His two contrasted sons have moved to the outskirts of Tokyo, and the core of the film is the old man's visit to the capital to assess their futures and his own.
This is not an example of what's happening in contemporary Japanese cinema, and it has the usual Yamada problem of being all surface and no depths; but it has sincere affection for its characters, and is very well acted and directed.

ATHENS - Kazuo Yamada, chancellor of Chubu University, died of a heart attack on Dec. 24, 2000, in Nagoya, Japan, at the age of 70.
Chancellor Yamada was a former president of Chubu University, a leading advocate of international education in Japan, and a very special friend of Ohio University.
