  Yamaha CS6X
Yamaha, appropriately laid them out so the one on your left as you sit at the keyboard is the one for the left channel when you are recording a stereo signal.
Yamaha's first VL synth was the VL-1 which produced a whopping 2 voices so keyboardists could play legato which requires notes to overlap for a fraction of a second as the keyboardist presses the next key before lifting his finger off the previous key.
(Yamaha's XG and Roland's GS are two flavors of General MIDI Plus.) The ability to simply reach out and grab a patch from a standardized list is really helpful when you have an idea and can't take the time to go rummaging for patches for fear of losing the the idea.

This light, rich instrumental rock-samba suited the vaguely tropical attire Clapton's bandmates wore as they joined him on stage.
Keyboardist David Sancious took this opportunity to play a solo on the Yamaha VL-1 Breath Controller.
Approximating a thin strand of fl licorice hanging from his lips, this amazing device sounded much like a soprano saxophone.

 Yamaha 01V Reviews: Recording
The 01V is perhaps 80% of Yamaha's 03D mixer, minus the on-board dynamic automation and surround mixing capabilities-for about half the price.
Finally, Yamaha has rethought the onboard effects processors a little since the 03D by letting you route the output of one into the other.
Everything there is to like about Yamaha's other digital mixers-and there really is quite a lot-applies equally to the 01V on its smaller scale.

Software Synthesizers, Chapter 1, Part 2
To qualify as a synthesizer, an instrument has to have one of two characteristics: (1) Its sound-producing circuitry offers a significant number of options to the user, enabling the user to shape the tone color as needed, and/or (2) it makes a class of sounds traditionally associated with synthesizers.
Yamaha produced a series of synths that used FM technology, the leader of the pack being the DX7.
The Yamaha VL-1, which was the first commercially available synth based on physical modeling, did not have most of the traditional types of controls, nor did it sound like a traditional synth, but it was a synth all the same.

 THE FULL EXTENT?
Yamaha have produced a solid, powerful and impressively versatile synthesizer which is well suited to both stage and studio settings.
The VL Element is monophonic, as on the VL70M and MU100R, while the AN Element is duophonic in the AN (Poly) + AWM mode and monophonic per Element in the AWM (Layer) + AWM and AN + FDSP modes.
Yamaha are evidently trying to outclass everyone else with the EX5's arpeggiator, turning it into a 4-track 'live sequencer' with all the recording and editing functions you'd expect from a workstation sequencer.

 Yamaha Synthesisers
The Yamaha CS80 polyphonic Synthesiser was a development on the GX1 model at an affordable price range (£5,000 in 1976) and competing with several other early polyphonic synthesisers such as the ARP Omni and the Moog Polymoog.
The Yamaha DX27, DX27S, and DX100 were the low end versions of the professional Yamaha synthesizers -the DX7.
Yamaha added more waveforms and multitimbrality for the DX11 and TX81Z, these instruments eventually became the protoypes for the recent SY77 and 99.

 EX5/7/R - Download - Yamahasynth.com
VL refers to the name of another musical instrument product from Yamaha, and actual name of the synthesis adopted to that product and EX is VA (Virtual Acoustic).
The EX5/5R provides a range of 272 preset VL "waves" which integrate all of the necessary characteristics, and which can be assigned to voice elements in much the same way as AWM waves (VL voices can have 1 VL element plus up to 3 AWM elements).

FDSP voices have from 1 to 4 AWM elements with an FDSP stage between the elements and the main effect stage.
Yamaha's Virtual Acoustic ("VL") Synthesis tone generation system applies sophisticated computer based "physical modeling" technology to musical sound synthesis, accurately simulating the very complex vibrations, resonances, reflections and other acoustic phenomena that occur in a real wind or string instrument.
The VL element can be used alone to emphasize the full realism and expressive power of the VL tone generator, or with added AWM elements for thicker textures.

Wired 2.03: Wave of the Future
Today, sampling - also known, confusingly, as PCM, for pulse code modulation - is the technology of choice in the synthesizer business, and many soundboard makers (including belated re-entrant Yamaha) see sample-based solutions as the logical replacement for FM.
To musicians and composers, however, the technology has one serious drawback: as you would expect from sounds pasted together from frozen snippets, it lacks expressiveness.
Many of these features are included in Yamaha's VL-1 synthesizer, the first commercial waveguide instrument, which the company announced at the end of November.

 Musician EX5 Synthesizer Review
If you've worked with any of Yamaha's keyboards over the past ten years, much of the EX5's nomenclature (and, alas, the morass of nested menus) will be familiar.
Although many menus let you adjust multiple parameters simultaneously via the six "soft" knobs, the fact is that there are lots of menus and way too little screen space for all the parameters that need to be viewed.
Out of the box, there's only 1 meg of RAM provided: This translates to a puny twelve seconds or so of mono sampling time, or six seconds of stereo.

 Synth Programming
In 1982, when Yamaha introduced to the world at large the DX-7 synthesizer, and its stunning FM synthesis, it changed the way we programmed and played.
Yamaha’s FM synths were notoriously difficult to program.
It wasn’t Yamaha’s fault; they are very complex machines, though it didn’t help that the DX-7 ushered in the era of the spartan front panel, with none of the analog synthesizer’s accessible knobs and sliders.

 Yamaha WX5
Yamaha is one of the only manufacturers that has remained committed to developing MIDI wind controllers over the past ten years.
The WX5 uses two DIP switches to select this message, so Yamaha could have implemented Aftertouch as a fourth choice, or possibly a combination of Expression and Volume, which would have been great for synths with no response to Breath Controller messages and limited controller routing.
It was Yamaha’s (and the world’s) first commercial synthesizer based on physical modeling, which has been near and dear to my heart since college.
