		The Yamaha Virago was the first V-Twin-powered cruiser-style motorcycle produced by a Japanese manufacturer, as well as one of the earliest mass-produced motorcycles with a single shock rear suspension.
		That year, Harley-Davidson, fearful of the inroads the Virago and other new Japanese cruiser-style motorcycles, pushed for a tariff on imported bikes over 700 cc.
		Yamaha replaced the 750 cc motor with 699 cc version to avoid the tariff, while the engine grew to 1000 cc, and later 1100 cc.

		The 1981 Virago 750 was the original V-twin cruiser from Japan, and 15 years later it is still, arguably, the most popular Japanese bike in what has become an American styling tradition.
		Conversely, the 920 Virago was enlarged to a full 1000cc, and a secondary, one-half gallon fuel tank was added under the seat to bolster its small 3.3 gallon main tank.
		The Viragos remained unchanged until 1986, when the 1000 was bumped up in displacement to 1,063cc and renamed the XV1100 Virago.

		I have also been informed that the stock seat on the Special is manufactured by Corbin for Yamaha and that the frames are the "pick of the litter" in that the weld joints are of a higher quality than standard.
		Because of the Virago's design, you have to remove the front header in order to remove the old mufflers and install the new set.
		The stock seat on the Virago is fine, but when I rode over 300 miles in a day, I would get a little sore.
