We calculate that several strike-slip faults were brought closer to failure by the 1995 earthquake, including the Yamasaki, Hanaore, Arima-Takatsuki tectonic line, and parts of the Median tectonic line.
The rate of earthquakes along the Yamasaki fault increased following the Kobe earthquake, as did the rates near or on the Arima-Takatsuki tectonic line and the southern end of the Hanaore fault.
Most thrust faults lie east and northeast of the 1995 earthquake; we calculate that all but the most northerly of these were inhibited from failure by the Kobe earthquake.
