Yangyang (양양군, 襄陽郡, aid.sun.county) is a county in Gangwon-do.
To the north is the city of Sokcho, to the west is the county of Inje, to the south is the city of Gangneung and the county of Hongcheon, and to the east is the sea.
As the county both faces the Sea of Japan/East Sea as well as has the Taebaek Mountains to block the cold wes wind in the winter, it is on average 2.5℃ warmer than oher cities on the west coast at the same latitude, and 3℃ warmer in the winter.

Yangyang, Gangwong Province (South Korea) -- The raging wildfire in the country's eastern coastal region continued to roar strongly late yesterday swallowing up villages, forests, and even a Buddhist temple while forcing thousands of residents to evacuate their homes, while Koreans elsewhere celebrated the 60th Arbor Day by planting six million trees.
So far, no casualties have been reported but officials of Yangyang County said the fire has flared over more than 150 hectares and the scope of the damage could not immediately be determined as the fire is expected to spread further overnight.
The fire was the largest since May 1980 in Yangyang County, where forests cover 82 percent of the land.

Their goal: to snatch the hundreds of chum salmon caught at sea and stuffed into a 50-yard (45.7-meter) netted stretch of the waterway for the annual Yangyang Salmon Festival, held this year on October 21 and 22.
In Yangyang, near the northeastern city of Sokcho (South Korea map), festivalgoers pay the equivalent of U.S. $20 to take part in the fishing frenzy, and tickets sell out fast.
