Bangkok's Chinatown is located on Yaowarat Road in Samphanthawong district.
By the end of 1891, King Rama V had cut many roads, Yaowarat Road is one of them.
Therefore Chinatown doesn't consist of only Yaowarat Road, but also covers others such as: Charoen Krung Road, Songwat Road, Songsawat Road, Chakkrawat Road etc. Yaowarat is the centre of the area.

 Charoen Krung Road
Along both sides of the road, shophouses are lined up, forming a string of business communities extending from Yaowarat Road, which is parallel to Charoen Krung.
Newly finished and not yet named, the road was commonly called "New Road" before King Mongkut (Rama IV) bestowed on it the name of "Charoen Krung", which means the prosperity of the city.
After its completion, the southern section of the road was too large to be put into full use because at that time, there was just a small number of inhabitants in that part of Bangkok.

Chinatown Bangkok or Yaowarat began to be established when King Rama I decided in 1782 to locate the Siamese capital on the eastern bank of the Chao Phrya River.
Another road of interest is Rachawong Road which crosses Yaowarat Road about half-way along its length and leads to the Chao Phrya river where there is a ferry jetty.
Most of the bigger hotels in Chinatown are located along Yaowarat Road, dominated by the Grand China Princess at the Ratchawong junction, right in the heart of Chinatown overlooking the old city and the Chao Phraya river.

Though the main roads are not very dissimilar to those of other parts of Bangkok, the genuine Chinatown lies down the busy numerous smaller roads, narrow alleys and backstreets.
A couple of Chinatown's most interesting roads are Yaowarat road (sometimes spelt Yaowaraj), leading westwards from near Wat Traimit, and Sampeng Lane (also known as Soi Wanit), running parallel south of Yaowarat.
Busy Yaowarat road is Chinatown's main street, and has surely one of greatest concentrations of gold shops anywhere, reflecting the love of gold the Thai-Chinese are often thought to have.

Yaowarat gets more upscale after you pass Talad Kao or the “Old Market” which has more kinds of Chinese ingredients than I could find on a recent Beijing trip.
Follow the advice of a sign I saw in Beijing and “Be Bravers” enough to head down Isranuphap Road to Charoenkrung Road and the massive Dragon Shrine and Wat Mangkorn, the biggest Mahayana monastery in Thailand.

The community-sponsored "Chinese Gate" at the western end of Bangkok's Yaowarat Road was built to commemorate the 73rd birthday of Thailand's King Bhumibol Adylyadeg, also known as King Rama IX.
Although Bangkok's Chinatown has no borders, it does have a heart, and that is Yaowarat Road, or rather the countless streets and alleys that cross it.
The increasing assertiveness of the Chinese community was perhaps most visibly demonstrated with the unveiling of the community- sponsored "Chinese Gate" at the western end of Yaowarat Road on December 5, 2000, the 73rd birthday of King Rama IX.
