Yarralumla (postcode: 2600) is a suburb in the inner south of Canberra, the capital city of Australia.
It is bordered to the north by Lake Burley Griffin, Commonwealth Avenue and Capital Hill to the East, Adelaide Avenue and the Cotter Road to the south and Scriviner Dam and part of the Molonglo River to the West.
Yarralumla is home to many of Canberra's foreign embassies and high commissions, many built in the traditional style of their home country.

Government House, set in 53 hectares of gardens, lawns and parkland at Yarralumla, has been the official residence of the Governor-General in Canberra since 1927, when the Commonwealth Parliament moved from Melbourne to the national capital.
The Commonwealth bought 'Yarralumla' in 1913, after Canberra was chosen as the national capital site.
Two years later a new Chancery was opened in the grounds of 'Yarralumla', with offices for the Governor-General and his or her spouse, the personal and official staff.

Yarralumla, Official Residence of the Governor-General was built in 1891 by Frederick Campbell, near the site of an older building known as the Hunting Lodge.
Yarralumla was the name of Campbell’s sheep property of some 40 000 acres.
Conversion work began at Yarralumla in 1924 and Government House was ready for temporary occupancy by the then Governor-General, Lord Stonehaven in 1927, as well as the Duke and Duchess of York, for their visit to open parliament in that year.

When the Yarralumla Brickworks was established in 1913, it was isolated from the rest of Canberra.
From 1913 to 1916 the workers lived in tent camps, as did everyone else building the new city, although the manager’s house built in 1914 was of galvanised iron.
Because the houses were built as part of the brickworks complex, they were not regarded as a suburb until the residents petitioned for the same rights as other Canberra residents.
