Yarrawonga is located at the south-western corner of Lake Mulwala where the lake passes through the Yarrawonga Weir and flows into the Murray River.
Being close to vast amounts of water and noted for its sunshine, it would come as no surprise to learn that this area is essentially a holiday resort and retirement centre, although the irrigation scheme supports substantial primary industries, such as dairying, agriculture and pastoral activities, in the surrounding countryside.
There is a noted tennis tournament at Easter, the Yarrawonga Show in October and the Red Cross Murray River Marathon, a canoe race from Yarrawonga to Swan Hill, on December 27.

 Weather Radar to Give Northern Victoria an 'Early Warning' Media Release 3 September 2001
A new weather watch radar to be built at Yarrawonga will make a major contribution to the accuracy and timing of flood warnings, storms and unusual weather conditions in Central and North East Victoria and the Southern Riverina, according to the Parliamentary Secretary for the Environment and Heritage and Federal Member for Murray Sharman Stone.
Dr Stone who is responsible for the Bureau of Meteorology unveiled a plaque to mark the commencement of construction today in a ceremony at the Yarrawonga aerodrome attended by local community leaders, orchardists and farmers who will directly benefit from the new radar.
The Yarrawonga radar will mean there will be four weather watch radars in Victoria.

MOIRA SHIRE COUNCIL has applied to Sport and Recreation Victoria for a grant to conduct a $60,000 feasibility study for a heated pool in Yarrawonga-Mulwala.
The idea for a heated pool has been spear-headed by the Yarrawonga-Mulwala Development Inc. The current outdoor pool in Yarrawonga is the preferred location for an indoor facility.
If the grant application is successful, Sport and Recreation Victoria will provide $30,000 for the study with the remainder to be met from Council and the community.
