During the hearing of the case in Delhi High Court, Mukul Rohtagi, the counsel for Chopra, who is the distributor of the film questioned the authenticity of plaintiff's claim that they were descendents of Pandey and said he was not a freedom fighter.
Chopra's contention was refuted by the plaintiffs' counsel Hari who showed a postal stamp issued in the name of Mangal Pandey by the Government of India in which he has been described as a freedom fighter.
