Yasin al-Hashimi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Like many of Iraq's early leaders, Hashimi, who was born Yasin Hilmi Salman, was served as an officer during Ottoman control of the country.
On October 30, 1936 Hashimi had the dubious distinction of being the first Iraqi prime minister deposed in a coup, led by General Bakr Sidqi and a coalition of ethnic minorities.
Hashimi served for ten months before he was replaced, in turn by Abd al-Muhsin as-Sa'dun.

Al Jamiya al Wataniya al Islamiya (The Muslim National League) was formed with the object of organizing and mobilizing the population for major resistance.
Membership in Al Ahd spread rapidly in Baghdad and in Mosul, growing to 4,000 by the outbreak of World War I. Despite the existence of Al Ahd and of other, smaller, nationalist societies, Iraqi nationalism was still mainly the concern of educated Arabs from the upper and the middle classes.

Chronology of the Middle East, 1908 to 1966
Hashimi is installed as PM (Mar35), leading to the "tribal invasion" of Baghdad, when rural tribesmen entered the city to present their grievances.
Hashimi also drew upon the strong support of the Muthanna club, an explicitly pan-Arab society formed in 1935, and closely allied with the pan-Arab officers led by Salah al-Din al-Sabbagh.
This however masks an ongoing process of centralisation and growing power for the army, which was using certain tribes to win political significance; other tribes who revolted were suppressed rapidly by the army.
