Yasumi Matsuno (松野 泰己) is a director working at Square Enix (previously called Squaresoft).
The soon-to-be-released Final Fantasy XII was written and directed by Matsuno and promises to maintain his theme of a deep and involving story with subplots of conspiracies and moral ambiguity.
Matsuno's Vagrant Story, and the soon to be released Final Fantasy XII were critically acclaimed by the magazine with a 40/40 score.

Yasumi Matsuno was born in 1965 in Nigata-ken, Japan.
In Fall of 2001 Matsuno and his team began work on Final Fantasy XII for the Playstation 2, while he oversaw the production of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance on the Game Boy Advance (which was developed by the Quest team).
Matsuno's last known public appearance is E3 in Los Angeles in May of 2004 and his current health status and whereabouts are unknown.

In a recent interview, Square producer Yasumi Matsuno maintained that production on a Game Boy Advance remake of Final Fantasy Tactics is 30 percent complete and that the company is shooting for a winter release for the game.
Matsuno said that the idea for a Final Fantasy Tactics remake originated with the many requests for remakes and sequels that began after the original's release.
Matsuno's current main project is Final Fantasy XII, which began development for the PlayStation 2 last fall.

Of course they are two different human beings, so it might not be 100% like Matsuno wanted but what can Kawazu really change when the game has been in development for several years and he doesn't even have a year left (if were accurate, he has less than 7 months).

When part of the FFXII team was said to have left Square-Enix for Hironobu Sakaguchi's new development studio, Mist Walker, Matsuno was reported to have not shown up for work for a month until the crisis was resolved.
In fact, we're not sure what Matsuno is working on now, and whether he was kicked off the team or if he voluntarily removed himself, although he is still said to be at Square.

There were alot of articles early this year saying that FFXII was pretty much done, it just needed some "final touches", the recent hands-on preview seemed to suggest that the game felt like it was an almost final version.
Remember when i told you there was rumor in my swedish gaming magazine´saying:we have very very realible source that is telling us he is leaving for mistwalker,and his "mentor" Sakaguchi offered him work at the company.
Matsuno got seriously ill and HAD to get off the staff (it's a statement from ff12 website)...Hiroyuki Ito (director of FFIX and director of FFT) and Hiroshi Minagawa (long time collaborator of Matsuno who worked on EVERY Matsuno games, including Ogre battle and tactics ogre) ARE the new directors!
