Upon their arrival in Yelizovo, some conscripts were hospitalized with pneumonia while others were sent to Magadan on Dec. 24, Rossiya reported.
Most troops rely on the Defense Ministry to ferry their conscripts by air, and FSB spokesman Vadim Shibayev was quick to suggest Thursday that the conscripts got sick at Chkalovsky.

Yelizovo is a town of about 50,000 souls, located inland about 20 miles from the much larger port of Petropavlovsk, which is about the size of Anchorage.
As an official sister city delegation, we were given the red carpet tour by the mayor’s staff and members of the local Rotary chapter.
Yelizovo would be a great place for such a school, because travelers could combine Russian language study with activities such as mountain trekking, fishing, hunting, marine wildlife cruises, and in the winter with excellent downhill and cross-country skiing.

However, according to a senior Yelizovo police officer's letter, the investigation materials and the confiscated copies were sent to the city's prosecutor at his request.
The conflict was settled after the Kamchtka region election commission and interior affairs department asked the Yelizovo authorities to return to newspaper copies, which were later delivered to the readers.

The council's guests were recognized at various points early on in the meeting by both Mayor Jack Cushing and councilmember John Fenkse, asking Homer residents to take the time to meet delegates as well as praising the Russians for participating in the cultural exchange.
Made possible in part because of the actions of former Homer resident Martha Madsen, who now makes her home on the Kamchatka Peninsula where Yelizovo is located, the business men and women got a taste of how business is done on this side of the Bering Strait.

The seismic forecast of the Russian Academy of Sciences for 2007-2011 shows that there is still a 55 per cent probability of high seismic activity in the areas of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Vilyuchinsk and Yelizovo districts, where seventy-eight per cent of all the inhabited localities happen to be.
Today, approximately one-third of all the buildings and structures in those populated localities, including the airports, are not strong enough to withstand earthquakes.

Aug 6 (Interfax) - A U.S. Air Force C-17 transport carrying equipment and specialists for the operation to rescue a stricken Russian mini-submarine landed at Yelizovo airfield near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at noon on Saturday, an Interfax correspondent reported from the scene.
A British C-17 and a U.S. C-5 carrying rescue equipment and experts landed at Yelizovo earlier on Saturday.
Equipment is being unloaded from the planes and the British and U.S. rescuers have arrived at the crisis center to discuss the operation to lift the mini-sub.
