	Yellow-headed caracara in Suriname
		The yellow-headed caracara (lenght 45 cm) has a light yellow-brown head and breast and pale spots on its long and dark wings.
		The caracaras themselves are often attacked by others birds like the great kiskadee, that will circle around trying to peck them until they fly away.

		The Yellow-headed Caracara, Milvago chimachima, is a bird of prey in the family Falconidae.
		The Yellow-headed Caracara is a resident breeding bird from Panama, Trinidad and Tobago south through South America to northern Argentina.
		The upperparts are brown with distinctive pale patches on the flight feathers of the wings, and the tail is barred cream and brown.

		Caracaras (Polyborinae) are smaller than falcons, have longer necks and legs than falcons, thicker, flatter talons, more rounded wings, a semi-bare face that is often brightly colored, and often glossy fl plumage.

		While we were still on the grounds of the resort, we saw a chestnut-mandibled toucan, golden-hooded tanagers, a green kingfisher, rufous-naped wrens, rufous-tailed hummingbirds,a yellow-throated euphonia, common tody flycatchers, and a Hoffman's woodpecker.
		Along the way we were pleased to see a yellow-headed caracara, some scarlet -rumped tanagers (pacific race), a squirrel cuckoo, blue-fl grassquits, a pair of variable seedeaters, and a lineated woodpecker.
		The added bonus of staying there was the birding we did as we headed up the 3 km dirt road to his home.

		As we passed along this section of the Canal we saw several raptors, some familiar: American Kestrel and Crested Caracara, and some unfamiliar such as the Yellow-headed Caracara* and the Gray Hawk.
