Zeta inherits all of the above, and also takes advantage of the enhancements that Be Inc. had slated for the next version of BeOS, which was never released, including the kernel-land BONE networking environment and a better media kit (one of the several kits that comprise the object-oriented BeOS API).
Zeta has a new USB2 stack that adds support for mass storage devices and a SANE port for image scanning; the latest release candidate also adds support for hard drives larger than 128GB.
Zeta is a commercial product, and although no pricing information for version 1.0 has been announced yet, it is expected that it will sell for approximately $100 plus tax.

YellowTAB's Zeta OS many readers have completely misunderstood a few of the key points presented in the article.
Zeta is still in beta and there is quite some work to be done to clean up before release.
YellowTAB tells me that they have something in the works, but the real question is how stable/finished it will be by the time Zeta hits R1.

In December 2004 yellowTAB released a service pack for Neo which addresses a number of errors plaguing users of the release.
The lack of documentation indicates that yellowTAB does not understand these changes, which break compilation of code, and in some cases, most notably Mozilla, break the actual application if any code optimisations are applied, resulting in much slower builds http://www.livejournal.com/community/bezilla/64711.html.

Reading through the control panels, ZETA is apparently capable of real-time audio and video transport, though I was not able to tax my system hard enough to tell the difference.
ZETA has basically just re-released the already released BeOS software with very limited changes, there's been practically zero progress on BeOS since Be died a sadly premature death.
Since many potential users wonder wether ZETA will run on their hardware, one purpose of the LiveCD is to allow users to try it on their hardware before buying the full version.

 Review: yellowTAB's Zeta R1 - OSNews.com
The short boottime is something that has always been a huge selling point for the Be to me, as I hate slow-booting operating systems (luckily OS X has good sleep/wake functionality, else it would be such a pain to use).
The Zeta bootscreen is basically the same as the old r5 one, just the graphics have changed a bit.
In previous versions of Zeta it could be quite a buggy experience, but it seems that the developers at yellowTAB have taken that criticism to heart: it's stable as a rock now.

Now that they are developing Zeta, and seem to have all the sourcecode for the OS, I think it should be pretty simple for them to get the AVM B1 driver that I wrote to work with Zeta's network stack, which is BONE.
In the meantime, Yellowtab has made it available on their homepage, which is good for those who want to use eXposer, which was suffering from the same problem.
This seems to be a new bug that was introduced with release of Zeta 1.0, as it doesn't happen with the previous release, Zeta neo.

YellowTAB has a great advantage inheriting all this source code from Be, Inc. but also it has the inevitable curse that they will have to live in the shadow of the "legendary days" of R4.5 and R5.
What's clear is that YellowTAB is spending a lot of time adding news features when they arguably should be updating an OS that in need of better driver support for older hardware, plus nascent support for newer technologies.
Yellowtab was just very careful about appearing to have it, but no where is there a statement about having purchased it or rights to it.

Since Zeta is supposed to be the king of multimedia it would be extremely wise for them to get something like Cubase and Premiere ported or written for the OS in order to show off its strengths.
