He succeeded his half-brother, Yeonsangun, because of the latter's misrule, which culminated in a coup placing Jungjong on the throne.
His policy had always faced opposition from his council members; and unlike his predecessors, he did not have much power to appoint his court officials because true power rested with the leaders of the 1506 coup that placed him in power, and later the queens' family members.
He didn't accomplish much during his reign, but it was a very calm era compared to that of Yeonsangun.

This gate is believed to have been first built in the 15th year of the reign of King Seongjong(1484) and then burnt down during the Japanese invasion of 1592 and rebuilt in the eighth year of the reign of King Gwanghaegun(1616).
This is typical of the early Joseon architecture, featuring a two-story pavilion 3kan wide and 2kan deep(a kan is a traditional word of length between two columns showing different dimension according to the period), and multi-brackets atop the columns.
King Yeonsangun was digging a large pond on the site of Chundangji when he was dethroned in 1506.

The story begins with the mother of young Yeonsangun being poisoned by a group of imperial guards under the order of the king.

Rolling on, there is Seobinggo, which means "west ice storehouse." During the Joseon Kingdom (1392-1910) days, an ice house was located here, storing ice cut from the river in winter for the use of officials from March to October.
This was near the site of Lady Yun, who because of her hot temper was deprived of her title as queen to King Song Yong and sentenced to die by poisoning in 1498.
Her son Yeonsangun frequently returned to visit her tomb, and spent much of his reign avenging her death.

Anyway it was set in Joseon Dynasty or Chosun period, during the times of Ming Dynasty which is not to far into the past.
I checked several websites and was disappointed that even the Joseon dynasty wasn't that old, can't even find a painting of her.
I suspect it was more because of the fact that she was a woman and her records were probably destroyed so we know her achievements through the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty but not much after the King died.

In 1467, King Sejo ordered the construction of a 10-story pagoda in the temple grounds in repentance for having usurped the throne of his young nephew King Danjong.
During the reigns of King Yeonsangun and King Jungjong, the temple was torn down and the site remained in ruins.
