Yeren - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Yeren (Chinese: 野人; pinyin: yěrén; literally "wild person"), variously referred to as the Yiren, Yeh Ren, Chinese Wildman, Wildman of Shennongjia, Man-Monkey, or Ren Xiong ("man bear"), is said to be an as yet undiscovered hominid residing in the mountainous and forested regions of China's remote Hubei province.
The yeren has also been hypothesized as a new species of orangutan, one that is ground-dwelling, bipedal and native to mainland Asia instead of Borneo.
The Yeren apparently dwells in a region already rich with superstition and strange phenomena, including an inordinate occurrence of albinism in the local fauna, adding to its mystique.

A New Yeren Investigation In China
The primary objective was the Yeren story, though the scientists from Taiwan were there to study the flora, fauna, and human use of the region.
Their Yeren were somewhat shorter and relatively less massive in body build; the long red hair, especially on the arms, was unexpected; and the high forehead did not fit at all.
For the Yeren seen walking away, this might have included a bent knee in the support leg, extra high lifting of the foot beginning the swing phase, and a slightly forward inclination of the torso — all of which I found in studying the Patterson film.

In 1940, biologist Wang Tselin claimed to examine the corpse of a Wildman that had been killed in the Gansu region.
In 1961, a team of road builders allegedly killed a female Yeren in the forests of Xishuang Banna.
The closest thing to concrete proof of the Yeren's existence surfaced in 1980 in the form of the preserved hands and feet of an unknown hominid creature.

China's yeren (wildman) has again been spotted, and this time he may have left a urine sample, according to the official Xinhua News Agency.
The three yeren were described as being between 5ft 1in (1.56m) and 5ft 7in (1.7m) tall, with long dishevelled red hair, slightly rounded eyes, broad foreheads and protruding chins.
Around the same time, a local rumour that the son of a yeren and a shy human mother lived in seclusion in the mountains tumed out to have been based solely on a videotape of a naked microcephalic man (a "pinhead") eating a banana.

From 1924, the year in which the first recorded sighting took place, more than 360 people claim to have seen the legendary creature in 110 different areas of the Shennongjia mountains (province of Hubei), and although the scientists have still not managed to prove its existence, the long delay could be over this year.
The scientists led by Zhang have gathered more than 2,000 presumed tracks of Yeren, as well as reddish hairs, blood samples and droppings with which it is hoped to establish if the man-monkey exists or not, and if it is human or animal.
The villagers of the area, mainly members of the ethnic groups miao and tujia, think that the Yeren are humans who have reverted towards primates.

The second, smaller type of yeren seems beyond dispute, and in fact it is possible, according to Zhou, that both living and dead specimens are already in scientists' hands.
The smaller yeren, in short, is a question largely of interest to primatologists.
Among zoologists prepared to accept the possibility of the large yeren's existence, a favorite speculation, shared by Bigfoot researchers, is that the creature is a surviving Gigantopitliccus, a giant, apparently biped primate believed to have gone extinct in China some 300,000 years ago after an 8 million-year evolutionary history.

The Yeren - from "ye", savage in Chinese, and "they ren", person - walks raised but a little bent, and some witnesses affirm that he is able to swim, which would differentiate him from many other primates except man.

The yeren, otherwise known as the Chinese wildman, is a hairy humanoid reported from the dense forests of China.

Some reports in this category sound so human-like than the yeren is thought by some researchers to be a primitive species of human, such as a Neanderthal man.
