Barabbas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Some early Syriac manuscripts of Matthew present Barabbas' name twice as Jesus bar Abbas: manuscripts in the Caesarean group of texts, the Sinaitic Palimpsest, the Palestinian Syriac lectionaries and some of the manuscripts used by Origen in the 3rd century, all support the fact that Barabbas' name was originally Jesus Barabbas.
{Bar- abba is found in the story of Jesus Pandera but bears little relevance.} Many scholars have speculated that Jesus was known as "bar-Abba", due to his custom of addressing God as father or 'Abba' in prayer, as well as referring to God as Abba in his preaching.
Abba has been found as a personal name in a First Century burial at Giv'at ja-Mivtar and Abba also appears as a personal name frequently in the Gemara section of the Talmud, dating from AD 200-400.

Benjamín Urrutia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
According to the Mormon Literature Database[1], Urrutia is "the only LDS Basque Israeli American anthropologist, linguist, and science fiction writer in the universe." Urrutia co-edited, with Guy Davenport, The Logia of Yeshua, which collected what they consider to be Jesus' authentic sayings from a variety of canonical and non-canonical sources.
Urrutia contends that Rabbi Yeshua Bar Abba was the historical Jesus of Nazareth and was the leader of the successful nonviolent Jewish resistance to Pilate's attempt to place Roman eagles — symbols of the worship of Jupiter — on Jerusalem's Temple Mount.
This episode is found in Josephus, who does not say who the leader of this resistance was, but shortly afterwards states that Pontius Pilate had Jesus crucified.

The main obstacles in trying to render His name as YAHshua instead of Yeshua, is created by the fact that there is no Hebrew letter "hey" in Yeshua, and also by the Masoretic vowel pointings or nikud.
The tsere that is under the Yod in "Yeshua" in the Hebrew scriptures demonstrates the vocalization of the first syllable as "yay," and not "YAH." This is also true of the Greek vowel eta, which is pronounced "Yay", and is found in the transliterated Greek rendering of Yeshua which is Iesous.

Linguistically, almost the same thing happened to the word rabbi (my teacher, my master), which was a polite form of address to a sage in the time of Jesus, and only later (around 90 A.D., or later) became a title.

Some have suggested that this may have been an effort by early Christian polemicists to curry favor with Rome by placing the blame for Jesus' execution on the Jews, and that it was part of the process by which Pauline Christians marginalized the still-observant Christian Jews of the Levant (Ebionites).
See article "Barabbas" for the evidence that "Jesus Barabbas" - Yeshua Bar Abba - was another name for Jesus of Nazareth himself.
Later, after state-sponsored persecution of Christians was stopped, the Nicene Creed adopted in 325 at the First Council of Nicaea convoked by the Emperor himself, stated unambiguously that Jesus "was crucified under Pontius Pilate", for Christian Rome was fully prepared to criticize even recent actions of pagan Rome.
