However, Sin was the summoning of Yu Yevon, and Yu Yevon was the leader of Zanarkand.
If Yu Yevon was a powerful summoner, Yuna could have just blown him to oblivion with her Aeons and everyone's attack powers, and if Yu Yevon was an unsent, Yuna could have Sent him.
Of course, that would mean Yu Yevon could come after other Aeons some day, to create a new Sin, but seeing what kind of a coward he is, with his style to run and hide behind unholy Aeon-armor, I don't think he'd dare to come out and try to obtain a new Aeon.

The Yevon church dominates every aspect of Spiran life, spreading their teachings and pretending to be the benevolent rulers of a much diminished world - a world where virtually any kind of technological and social progress has been asleep for 1000 years.
Initially rejected by the Yevon clergy, Mi'Ihen successfully pleads his cause and the corps is integrated as a church body, and renamed Crusaders.
So the parasitic look of Yu Yevon might simply be due to the fact that he's exactly that: a leech on final aeons, and his shape just happens to be the most practical one for that task.

Yevon is a major religion for FFAU, and anybody can belong to it, whether they're FFX/X-2 characters or not.
New Yevon is a more liberal organization, open to anybody and everybody, teaching not the worship of Yevon (since, as revealed in Baralai's "experience", Yevon is actually a Summon/Aeon/GF/whatever, and not a god) but the following of the morals of life set forth in the Teachings.
Basically, Old Yevon is steeped in tradition, concerned more with the worshipping of the god; New Yevon, on the other hand, is starting anew and is concerned with the morality of life and following the words set forth in the Teachings.
