 Choong-Moo
Born in 1545, Yi Sun-Sin was considered a master naval tactician and was largely responsible for the defeat of the Japanese in 1592 and 1598.
Yi employed one of his tactics, the use of two salvo fire, that resulted in a continuous barrage, causing the Japanese to think that they had run into a vastly superior force.
Yi knew that the location given by the spy was studded with sunken rocks and was very dangerous.

 Who Was Yo Wun Hyung?
Kim Gu, indeed, had a number of Korean leftists murdered in China and forcibly took possession of the gold rubles sent by Lenin to Yi Dong-whi for his Koryo Communist Party (hence the "robber" label).
Yi Dong-whi, the KPG prime minister at the time, was one of the nationalists opposed to Yo's trip to Japan and issued an official statement to the effect that Yo was acting as an individual and not as a reprehensive of the Korean Government.
Mu Jong was expelled from the school in 1923 for revolutionary activities, and in March of that year, he crossed the Yalu and reached Beijing.

 Glossary of Mah Jong
A scoring system used in modern Chinese Mah Jong, according to which the final score of the hand is determined by a settling table which regulates doubling of the scores and often specifies identical or intermediate values for increasing number of “faans”.
A complete game of Mah Jong normally consist of four rounds (East, South, West and North), which in turn consist of at least four hands, so that each of the players has been a dealer at least once per a round.
In Japanese Mah Jong separate scoring is sometimes assigned to Thirteen Orphans pure, which requires that a player is calling with the orphans (in which case he can go out on a tile identical with any of the 13 tiles already in hand).

 Who Are the 'Patriots'?
Mu was not the only one defying Kim's orders to 'stay put and fight to the end.' In the Fall of 1950, the old time Communist cadres were ordered to move to China but the rank and file Party members were left behind to fight the invaders.
Kim Il Sung stripped Mu of his command and th reatened to shoot him - notwithstanding the fact that Mu saved the KPA from total destruction and that Mu was the ranking Korean general in Mao's 8th Route Army which was in North Korea in force to save Kim's neck.
Mu ignored Kim's order and evacuated the city, thus saving the city and tens of thousands of civilians and KPA soldiers.

The bill, officials said, would designate June 19 as Daemado Day in celebration of the departure of Joseon Dynasty general Yi Jong-mu (1360-1425) and his troops from Masan on an expedition to conquer Daemado Island in the 15th century.
The island was once under the control of the ancient Korean dynasty of Joseon, according to local and Chinese historians.
Masan City's territorial claims to Daemado Island came after the council of Japan's Shimane Prefecture passed a bill on Wednesday calling South Korean islets of Dokdo in the East Sea part of Japanese territory.

 hap Ki Do History
What must also be kept in mind is that previous to 1945 there was a long historical decline of the martial arts of Korea commencing with the Yi dynasty (1392-1910) and finishing with the Japanese occupation (1910-45) where they were all but stamped out.
Participation was compulsory for all soldiers and three winners of these annual contests were Lee Yi Min, Jang Jong Boo and Sa Kyang Sung who became leading generals during the Koryo Dynasty.
In many cases the ancient martial arts of Korea were kept alive by just a few scattered individuals, often monks living in seclusion in the mountains with perhaps just one or two disciples.

The Standard - Rift widens with South Korean claim - World Section
Some Korean historians argue those islands - considerably larger than the other disputed islets and home to 40,500 people - were once controlled by Korea, and the date commemorates the day in the 15th century when Korean General Yi Jong Mu went there to conquer it.
And demonstrations outside the Japanese embassy in central Seoul continued Friday, with the most startling scene that of a man pouring paint thinner on himself and jumping into a fire where protesters were burning Japanese flags and boxes symbolizing Japanese goods.
Broadening the dispute to another previously contested territory, South Korea's Masan city council voted to mark June 19 as ``Daemado Day,'' the Korean name for Japan's Tsushima islands just 50 kilometres off the southeastern tip of the Korean peninsula.
