 general list
A roots revival of Manx folk music began late in the 20th century, alongside a general revival of the Manx language and culture.
The 1970s revival was kickstarted, after the 1974 death of the last native speaker of Manx, by a music festival called Yn Chruinnaght in Ramsey.
Prominent musicians of the Manx musical revival include Emma Christian (Ta'N Dooid Cheet - Beneath the Twilight), whose music includes the harp and tin whistle, and harpist and producer Charles Guard (Avenging and Bright), an administrator at the Manx Heritage Foundation, MacTullagh Vannin (MacTullagh Vannin) and the duo Kiaull Manninagh (Kiaull Manninagh).

During the early years, most of the events that "TOB" attended were Pan-Celtic Festivals based in Perranporth, Cornwall, the Manx festival "Yn Chruinnaght", and the Irish Pan-Celtic.
We have continued to support the Irish festival since the first visit to Killarney in 1989, having travelled with the festival to Galway, Tralee, Ennis, Kilkenny and last year we were back at Tralee.

Nevertheless, their whole ethos seems to permeate Mona Douglas’s ideas regarding the establishment of a youth movement, the promotion of Manx Gaelic, and the re-establishment of the Manx folkmusic and dance traditions, from the 1930s onwards right through to her re-inauguration in 1977 of the Manx Inter-Celtic Festival of Yn Chruinnaght (‘the gathering’) and thereafter.
Given these circumstances, it is evident that Mona Douglas could not have made her not-inconsiderable contribution to the Manx cause without a firm belief in such sentiments.
It was revived by Mona Douglas (see below) in 1977 under the title Yn Chruinnaght ‘the gathering’.
