	Ynysybwl - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Ynysybwl itself is situated in the Clydach Valley, flanked on either side by the Rhondda Valley and Cynon Valley.
		The name Ynysybwl (Ynys-y-Bwl to be exact) means in English either "Field of Rock" or "Field Hill" either of which would aptly describe the hills to the Eastern side of the village (on which the colliery was sited) as it is flanked on each side by rivers and streams.
		Today, Ynysybwl is the base for an extraordinary number of clubs and associations for such a small village, boasting rugby, football, netball, bowls, cricket, a pony club, male voice choir, a brass band (Lady Windsor Colliery Band) and sections of the Brownies and Air Training Corps.

		Ynysybwl Football Club was formed in 1895 and competed with great success in the local Pontypridd league until 1967 when, after finishing runners up, they applied to step up to the Welsh League.
		This time Ynysybwl were stronger and missed out on successive promotions by only six points, eventually having to settle for fifth place.
		Ynysybwl merged with local league team Pontypridd Sports and Social to form Pontypridd/Ynysybwl and arranged to play home games at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park from the 1991/92 season.

		The district has an area of 10,504 acres and comprises; besides Mountain Ash proper, a string of villages, the chief being Cwmpenar, Penrhiwceiber, Abercynon or Aberdare Junction (at the confluence of the Cynon with the Taff) and Ynysybwl, 3 m.
		The public buildings include St Margarets (1862) and St Winifreds (1883), the parish churches of Mountain Ash and Penrhiwceiber respectively; old and new town halls (1864 and 1904), cottage hospital (1896), and a library institute and public hall erected in 1899, at a cost of ~8ooo, by the workmen of Nixons Navigation collieries.
