JapanBall.com - Yokohama BayStars Team Information
In 1998 the BayStars won their first Central League pennant in four decades and it looked as if the team might be strong for several years.
Often compared to the Chicago Cubs, the BayStars haven't won a pennant or a Japan Series championship since 1960.
Playing in Yokohama Stadium since 1978, the BayStars ballpark lies in one of the best locations in Japan, a few blocks from Chinatown and the waterfront.

Yokohama   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
Yokohama was a small fishing village up to the end of the Edo period, a time when Japan conducted very little trade with foreign countries.
Yokohama was designated as a foreign port instead of Kanagawa, which the Tokugawa shogunate feared was too close to the Tokaido, a strategic highway connecting Edo to Nagoya, Kyoto, and Osaka.
Yokohama is located on a peninsula facing the western side of Tokyo Bay, 30 kilometers (18 miles) from Tokyo, to which it is connected by a half-dozen railway lines as well as expressways and surface streets.

Yokohama Stadium is a small circular stadium with just one deck of seats.
It is not as fancy as the domed stadiums, but the staff is nice, the food is good, and the fans who show up (not many with the bad weather) love their BayStars, despite their dismal records in 2002 and 2003.

While the Giants are a big draw on the road, the game in Yokohama was not sold out, even though the BayStars play in one of the smallest parks in Japan (about 30,000 seats).
Still it was a bigger than normal crowd for the BayStars, whose fans still seem to enjoy themselves despite watching their team get shellacked.
Yokohama is definitely a no-frills experience as Japanese baseball goes.

With Yokohama's 8-1 loss to the Yomiuri Giants on Sunday (May 19), the BayStars have now lost 12 consecutive games and are risk of passing the their franchise record of 14 straight losses, set by the Taiyo Whales (the BayStars' predecessors) in 1955.
Perhaps the lone bright spot for Yokohama has been right-hander Daisuke Miura, who has compiled a 2.83 ERA in 63-2/3 innings, but has a dismal 2-7 record thanks to his team's lack of support.
Given the moves made by Yokohama's front office in recent years, it's fair to question whether any other manager in the same circumstances would be able to do any better.
