The P1Y appeared when Japan was already defeated and many were sent on suicide missions.
The P1Y was also chosen as carrier for the MXY-7 model 22 suicide aircraft, but this combination did not enter combat.

On 1 November, a burning Yokosuka P1Y "Frances" twin-engine bomber crashed into the destroyer between her stacks.
En route, she took quite a detour, steaming via Suva in the Fiji Islands to Melbourne, Australia, to participate in the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Allied victory in the Battle of the Coral Sea.
She arrived in Yokosuka on 13 July to begin five months of duty with the 7th Fleet.

Called a major development in Japanese bombardment aircraft by the USAAF, the P1Y Ginga was the first truly high-speed medium bomber to serve the Japanese Navy (Allied code name Frances).
Development of the P1Y began in 1940 with the first aircraft, built by the Yokosuka Naval Air Depot, making its first flight in 8/43.
A number of other P1Y variants were proposed, including an enlarged P1Y2 planned to carry the Baka Human-guided bomb.

This included new types of attacks, including purpose-built Yokosuka MXY7 Ohka rocket-bombs, small boats packed with explosives, and manned torpedoes, called the Kaiten.
