Yola language - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Yola was a branch of Middle English that evolved separately among the English (known as the Old English) who followed the Norman barons Strongbow and Robert Fitzstephens to eastern Ireland in 1169.
In the centuries before the Flight of the Earls, most Yola speakers gradually abandoned their language and adopted Irish Gaelic and fully assimilated as ethnic Gaels, but a handful of speakers survived in County Wexford until Yola became extinct in the 19th century.
It appears to be plausible that Yola is a Norse dialect that developed, under the influence of English, along a parallel track, as opposed to developing from English.

Splendid Magazine reviews Yola: Another Girl
Yola has a few things going for her: she's a fetching young lass, her Polish accent places her in a long line of female performers whose exotic delivery adds appeal to her music (see Nico), and she's earnest as all get-out.
Yola is game enough in attempting the song, but everything from the forced-sounding growl in her voice (a stylistic choice that plagues much of Another Girl) to the weird effect that swells and fades at the end of certain lines, fails to click.
Hopefully Yola can use her vocal abilities and her urge to create music to make something truly new, vibrant, and worthwhile...next time.

In the liner notes to Yola, she speaks of her musical history to date, and how her individual path has been a diverse and often confusing one.
But this seems to pale when she sings songs as good as those on "Yola." On "The Rain Falls" she brings a dark, bluesy vibe to an already atmospheric song, which makes it one of the most memorable tracks on the album.
McEvoy took the title "Yola" from a distinct and now almost mythical dialect, once spoken in a small part of County Wexford in the southeast corner of Ireland where it is still commemorated.

While most for her 1992 hit 'Only A Woman's Heart', and the subsequent albums for Geffen and Columbia, her new album 'Yola' is independently produced and released, and tellingly is a major improvement on the major label collections.
'Yola' is a wonderfully simple recording; piano, guitars, bass and percussion are the staples, with occasional violin completing the accompaniment - the stripped down feel gives the lyrics chance to shine through, and the whole disc a relaxed atmosphere.
'Yola' is an adventurous singer/songwriter disc that will undoubtedly find mainstream success, as it has some great standout tracks, and it's all really easy to enjoy.
