The Yonghe Temple (雍和宮), also known as the "Palace of Peace and Harmony Lama Temple", the "Yonghe Lamasery", or - popularly - the "Lama Temple" is a temple and monastery of the Geluk School of Tibetan Buddhism located in the northeastern part of Beijing, China.
The Yonghe Temple is arranged along a north-south central axis, which has a length of 480m.
The Yonghe Temple is located in the Dongcheng District of Beijing, near the northeastern corner of the Second Ring Road.

Yonghe Gate, originally the main entrance to the Lamasery is now called Devaraja Hall (Hall of the Heavenly Kings), as there are the statues of four very powerful Heavenly Kings located on both sides of the inner palace walls.
The northern Heavenly King on the eastern side holds a snake and treasures; the southern King on the eastern side holds an umbrella and a silver mouse; the southern one on the western side holds a sword and the northern one on the western side holds a Pipa (a musical instrument used in ancient China).
To the north of this Pavilion is an odd-shaped hill called Xuyu Hill, a sacred place of rich religious meaning which was built in the middle of a pool, and represents a place to which all Buddhists are eager to go.

The character in Out of China, Yu Yonghe, was a unique man, as far as Chinese literati are concerned, which makes his work, Pihai Jiyou, or The Small Sea Travel Records, just as unique and similarly interesting.
We know very little about Yu Yonghe, only that he was from Zhejiang province, Renhe prefecture (near Hangzhou).
Of course they all went to the scenic spots of historical interest, such as the Five Sacred Mountains, but one is hard pressed to find a character like Yu Yonghe who visited overseas lands and left such a vivid account.
