  York Lions Steel Band
The York Lions Club, in April 1972, organized and sponsored a new band for youth called the York Lions Steel Band.
The York Lions Steel Band is made up of approximately 30 teenagers who perform on various sizes of 45-gallon oil drums and is considered to be one of the best steel bands north of the Caribbean.
It has the distinct pleasure of carrying the City of York flag wherever it travels and is proud to be called "The Official Youth Band of the City of York".

York was well represented at the 2006 Canadian Beach Volleyball Championships, Aug. 26-27 in Toronto, as York Lions athletes, alumni and children of alumni won six different age divisions.
John played for York from 1979-1983 and was an integral part of York’s three-year run of OUA titles from 1980-1982.
Harrison, Druce, and Smith were among four Lions last year to practise with the Toronto Maple Leafs during the Olympic break.

I read your letter published in the December 14 issue of the York Weekly regarding your experience with the Christmas tree you purchased at the York Lions Club in the Village and the unpleasant experience you had with Lions Club volunteers at the stand.
I am far from an expert on Christmas trees (see The York Independent editorial of December 21, ‘05), but as a fairly intelligent person, I can only surmise that there are numerous reasons that the tree fell over - one of them being that you didn’t put the tree in the stand correctly.
If the more so-called "knowledgeable" York citizens should disagree, then they will form a citizens petition to determine whatever number they deem fit for all of us in the town of York.
