York University was founded in 1959, by virtue of the York Act, which received Royal Assent in the Ontario Legislature on March 26 of that year.
The Department also houses the 'York Political Economy", or YPE, as a long-term initiative whose purpose is to bring together teaching, research and discussion of political economy at York University; making York one of the world’s leading centres for the study of heterodox and radical political economy.

The Ravens defeated the University of Ottawa Gee Gees, 62-61 and the York Lions defeated the Royal Military College, 56-43.
The Lions complied the second best record in the OUA East after the Winter break and are now 13-3 including two post season victories in the new year.
York is making their second trip to the CIS "Final 10" Championship in three years.

The Foundation includes: a temporal bone library, a temporal bone lab for university students,a voice lab for photographing patients' larynxes and a cochlear implant program for children as young as one year of age.
In West Virginia, USA, the Craigsville Lions donated a TTY (telecommunications device for the deaf) for a hard of hearing person in the community.
In Turkey, the Lions of District 118 remodeled a five-story school for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Both York and U of T have one win and one loss, with the York Lions football squad dumping the Varsity Blues 66-7 in the TRY Cup opener at York on September 27.
The Ryerson University Rams, the third member of the inaugural TRY Cup competition, open their schedule in badminton on October 18th at U of T. The TRY Cup schedule really gets busy in the last week of October when all three Toronto-area universities will be in action in hockey and volleyball.
The TRY Cup, with the acronym 'TRY' representing the University of Toronto, Ryerson University and York University, is a season long competition that includes six sports and 24 different teams.

History was made Friday night when Jamaal Smith became the first York men's soccer player to be named CIS Rookie of the Year.
Ontario University Athletics (OUA) announced Thursday, the men’s soccer Major Award winners and all-star teams for the 2006 season.
Four York Lions were named all-stars, while Jamal Smith was named West Rookie of the Year.

The UCLA men's volleyball team defeated York University of Toronto 3-0 to complete round robin play in the 18th Husky Dino Cup, hosted by the University of Calgary.
Coach Al Scates rested his starters in the Bruins' second match of the day, and the second team completely dominated the York Lions.
York's Ryan Anderson cut the lead to 24-22 before the Bruins won the match with the next point.
