County class cruiser - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The County class were built in four sub-classes, that became known as the Kent, London, Norfolk and York classes.
The Yorks underwent modifications similar to the three previous sub-classes during the 1930s, having their four single 4-in (102 mm) guns replaced with four 4-inch twin-turrets, and their six 21-inch (533 mm) torpedo tubes were also removed.
The Yorks had the distinction of being the last warships of the RN to be armed with 8-inch (203 mm) guns.

She was redesignated as a "second class battleship" in 1894, an awkward compromise reflecting slowness compared to other cruisers, and weakness versus the first-line battleships of the time.
On 17 July 1920, all existing US armored cruisers were merged with protected cruisers in a single class "cruiser" with hull classification symbol "CA" (not to be confused with the later use of the "CA" for heavy cruisers), bringing to an end the use of the term in the US.

The Starfleet Museum - Paris Class
Despite their relatively large size (displacing approximately 60,000 tons), these ships were only intended as auxiliary colonial defense ships and fleet cruisers for use until the construction of a projected new class of large cruisers, which would replace the MOSKVA class sometime after 2200.
Starfleet decided that the only way to win authorization for a new colonial defense/fleet light cruiser in the present political climate was to not propose a warship or, more accurately, to propose a warship that did not appear to be a warship.
As a result, the basic structure of the PARIS class, proposed in 2194, was extremely unspecialized, with built-in weaponry (a single missile tube and no lasers cannons) less powerful than that of MOSKVA (or the proposed MONTANA and CHEYENNE classes) and similar to that of GAGARIN.

Finally, in an unusual move, it was decided that since such a large amount of parts were able to be used in the new ship, it would considered an “upgrade/refit” and the same NCC number could still be used so to better honor Sotak and his crew that unselfishly gave their lives for the Federation.
