Yoshihiro Asai - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Yoshihiro Asai (born December 12, 1966 in Nagoya, Aichi), better known as Último Dragón, is a Japanese professional wrestler.
Asai is credited with popularizing the "Asai Moonsault", although, contrary to popular belief, he did not invent the move.
Asai debuted on WWE television in Madison Square Garden in a match with Shannon Moore, and wrestled there again at WrestleMania XX (where he had two bloopers; one being him slipping on his cape when coming out, and slipping on the turnbuckle).

SLAM! Wrestling Editorial: A quiet end for Ultimo Dragon
Asai was a renaissance wrestler, jetting around the world and maintaining simultaneous wrestling schedules in Japan, Mexico and the U.S. His work ethic inside the ring was unparalled, his thirst to put on a great match insatiable.
Asai started in the old Universal Wrestling Association before moving to the EMLL promotion in October of 1991 where he was given the name Ultimo Dragon (translated into English as the last student of "The Dragon" Bruce Lee) by booker Antonio Pena.
Asai split his time in Japan between WAR and New Japan, capturing the IWGP Junior Heavyweight title twice, cementing his stature as one of the top junior heavyweight's in history and making New Japan regret their decision 10 years earlier.

 Inside Pulse: Ultimo Dragon
They all know his name's Yoshihiro Asai: the Asai moonsault is named after him, and he unmasked while in Japan.
Similarly, Asai "disappears" but comes back under a mask- although the time frames are slightly different between the disappearances and returns, the analogy is helpful.
I think the way to go is to debut Asai as Asai, unmasking because he's pissed off at the treatment of Ultimo, and goes about to make a name for himself and his home nation.

Guides: WWE Smackdown!: Here Comes the Pain Guide (PS2)
Instructed by the great Antonio Inoki and Yoshiaki Fujimara, Yoshihiro Asai began his wrestling career without the benefit of a mask or gimmick.
Despite the fact that he was jobbing to more established stars, Asai took these experiences with him when he moved to Mexico to learn the lucha libre-style of wrestling.
After several corrective surgeries and rehabilitations, however, Asai made his return to the squared circle earlier in 2003 -- looking to be in great shape and purported to be 100% once again.

In what should have been a routine surgical procedure to remove bone chips from his elbow, Asai suffered severe nerve damage which caused him to partially lose strength in his arm, effectively ending his wrestling career.
In December of 2001, Ultimo Dragon had surgery once again on his injured arm and it was successful.

I was just watching my Ultimo Dragon compilation, and during the excellent match of Yoshihiro Asai/Kato Kung Lee vs. Blue Panther/Black Power, one of the guys fell out of the ring, and I saw someone wearing pants similar to TAKA's, and it said MASA on it.
I guess he (sasuke) was inspired by him (Kato), and stole the look, with a different mask, of course.
Asai was incredible, even way back then, he did many great moves, and his execution was crisp, and very fluid.

Universal Lucha Libre - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
However, the first Japanese to fully and truly adopt the gymnastics-oriented Lucha Libre style actually came from rival New Japan Pro Wrestling: Gran Hamada, who had gone on excursion several times to Mexico due to his lack of size and won many titles there.
In 1990, after passing through New Japan, the original Japanese UWF, and All-Japan, Hamada decided to form his own promotion, with the aid of his disciple Yoshihiro Asai, his former New Japan boss Hisashi Shinma, and some Mexican wrestlers and Japanese rookies he had recruited.
Over the years, the roster of Universal's trainees would go on to become major stars in both the Japanese major promotions and the independents.

His real name is Yoshihiro Asai and yes that does mean he created the ‘Asai Moonsault’.
It was here in EMLL that Asai altered his ring name, and costume to create the Ultimo Dragon, a reference to the last student of Bruce Lee.
His lack of in-ring appearances on Smackdown have hardly helped at all and even though he elicits a healthy pop when he enters it does not seem to be enough to save him.
