UFO (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
UFO became a transitional band between early hard rock and heavy metal and what came as the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.
UFO's influence was strongly felt in the 1980s heavy metal scene and they have been cited as a primary influence of Steve Harris of Iron Maiden, Kirk Hammett of Metallica and Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, among others.
Their eponymously titled first album debuted in 1970 and was a typical example of blues and boogie based hard rock.

Here are some photographs I took in and around Rendlesham Forest on a grey day in 1983 November, nearly three years after the famous UFO sighting.
The security guards who first reported the UFO crashing into the forest were stationed at the small lodge seen by the road, near the centre of the frame.
Although many of the trees in the area of the alleged UFO landing area were felled as part of normal forestry operations in the two or three years following the events of 1980 December, this stand remained at the forest’s eastern edge in 1983 November.

In terms of overall sound, this is about as good as the two albums before it, 'Phenomenon' and 'Force It'.....the guitars are very well recorded and prominent in the mix, the bass and drums sound crisp and clear.
UFO did this type of song very well when they had Schenker, whose crying guitar solo in the middle may be the best thing I think he has ever done and is to me one of the highlights of the album.

When UFO formed circa 1969, the group was called Hocus Pocus, but changed their name to reflect that of a famous club in London.
When UFO started out, back before they had Michael Schenker join the band, they were a far cry from the incarnation of the band that got popular, and that most people remember them for being.
Rather than the so-called "normal" UFO album that has several average-length songs, the band's little-known second album opts for only a few songs, but they are all among the band's lengthiest.

UFO along with a few other bands (Judas Priest and Motorhead) helped bridge the gap between the rock-eras of the early seventies and NWOBHM and while not exactly essential rockhistory they did play an important role in maintaining the edges of rock through a difficult period with less commercial interest.

Need New Body: UFO - PopMatters Music Review
Other odd spots on UFO include "Red As a Bone" and its piano-led journey of rambling free verse poetry that eventually gives way to a 60-second ditty entitled "Turken Hogan", which relies solely on beatboxing for its percussive blast.
However, while Need New Body consistently transcends genre borders, what keeps its music coherent and complete is its impeccable rhythm section, which always creates a strong skeleton of beats and rhythms for the rest of the instruments to lay their experimental tracks upon.
Sure, UFO is experimental, weird, and bizarre, but it also illustrates a band that simply knows how to write great songs regardless of what genre they may fall into.
