Young Avengers #1 - Shiny Shelf
This first issue of 'Young Avengers' starts out from the simple premise that there's no sensible explanation for the existence of a set of junior versions of Captain America, Thor, Iron Man and the Hulk.
The basis of this first issue is the fallout from the first appearance of the Young Avengers as two groups - the staff of the Daily Bugle and the grown-up Avengers - try to find out who these new young heroes are and track them down.
Virtually half the issue is spent like this, building the context for the appearance of the Young Avengers, with only small illustrations of the title characters and journo Kat Farrell's nicknames for them to go on.

That said, however, readers who approach the book with an open mind will immediately discover that not only is YOUNG AVENGERS written from the point of view of an Avengers fan, but it’s actually about a team of diehard Avengers fans, as well.

It’s about a group of teenagers learning to become heroes (and adults) at a time in their development when their emotions, bodies, and minds are in a constant (and sometimes agonizing) state of transition.

Young Avengers #1 Review - Silver Bullet Comics
Young Avengers is after all a concept that at first glance appears so utterly contrived, lame, cheesy and a variety of other pessimistic adjectives, that it seems almost certain to fail.
You’d have to be to take a concept as god-awful as the Young Avengers and turn it into something that is this palatable.
Of course, in terms of adolescent superhero comics Young Avengers lacks the wit and creativity of Robert Kirkman’s Invincible (which manages to balance drama whilst still poking fun at the superhero genre) and it is nowhere close to being in the same league as DC’s Teen Titans.

In the end, Young Avengers #8 is yet another great read in a consistently brilliant series proving that when it comes to the Avengers, “New” is old and tired, and “Young” is where it’s at.
