Frequently Asked Questions, Answers In Creation
Old earth creationists, and Christians who find their faith challenged because of the old age of the earth, need to be ready to provide answers to false young earth claims.
In other words, they were taught young earth creationism, but they were turned off to the church when they saw that the creation itself was old, thus they thought the church's message to the world to be flawed.
By contrast, a YEC “scientist” has made the theory first (that the earth is young) and then he looks for observations to confirm it.

Young Earth creationism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Young Earth creationism is normally characterized as opposing evolution, though it also opposes many claims and theories in the fields of geology, astronomy, genomics and any other fields of science that have developed theories or made claims incompatible with the Young Earth version of world history.
Young Earth Creationists assert that the Flood was a combination of radical geological activity (the opening of the "fountains of the great deep") and extreme rainfall (from "windows in the firmament of heaven").
Young Earth creationists such as Basil the Great and John Calvin long ago answered this by suggesting that the light created by God on Day 1 was the light source.

Also, YEC physics claims about varying speed of light and varying decay rates of radioactive substances are bogus, and Lord Kelvin's argument that the earth would be cooler if it were millions of years old, has turned out to be wrong when radioactivity was discovered.
Young earth Creationists such as Basil the Great and John Calvin long ago answered this by suggesting that the light God created on Day 1 was the light source, and Answers in Genesis refined this by suggesting that the earth was already rotating with respect to this light.
YEC is a stupid, unthinking blasphemy, an idolatry of text, and it's a curse on American Christianity.

Young Earth Creationism (YEC) is a form of creationism that accepts a literal, historical, interpretation of the creation story in Genesis.
Young Earth Creationists (YECs) usually believe the age of the Earth to be ~6,000 to ~10,000 years old and the Earth and the life on it were created during 6 consecutive 24-hour days.
In particular, trying to cram Earth history into such a short time-frame is fraught with difficulty, as most of geology and astronomy show clear evidence that the Earth and the Universe have been around for orders of magnitude longer.

 Young Earth Creationism
Young earth creationism is a belief that the first 11 chapters of Genesis are literally scientifically and historically accurate, in particular that creation took place about 6000 years ago and Noah's flood was a global event.
Young earth creationists do not have the excuses the church had about 400 years ago, as science has progressed considerably in the last 400 years, and the evidence for the great age of the universe is completely overwhelming.
Young earth creationists do not like to be associated with the old geocentric views in the church, and in their defense claim that it was the Roman Catholic Church in their argument with Galileo that had adopted the Aristotelian belief of geocentricism.

 Young earth creationism - CreationWiki
The young Earth creationism perspective is the result of a plain reading of the description of the early earth in the Bible, and the Islamic Qur'an, which both contain nearly parallel accounts of a six-day creation, Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, and Noah's flood.
Integral aspects of the Young Earth Creationist position include creation in six days (encompassing everything from the beginning of the universe to the appearance of man), and the global flood of Noah's time (as the fossil-bearing sediments laid down by the flood account for most of the geological column).
Young Earth creationists argue that the Bible was written as actual history and was to be understood as actual history.

Young earth scientists believe that the various astronomical bodies such as planets, stars, and galaxies were supernaturally created and that materialistic explanations of the the origins of various astronomical bodies are insufficient and counter evidence.

Young earth creationists believe that the earth and the universe are only tens of thousands of years old and that Genesis gives us a straightforward account of God's creative activity.
The young earth creationist firmly maintains that Genesis chapter one is a literal, historical document that briefly outlines God's creative activity during six literal twenty-four hour days.
Young earth creationists also maintain the integrity of what is called the Genesis kind, defined in Genesis 1:11, 12, and 21.

The Baliset Palimpsest: Young Earth Creationism - Kaput
Young Earth Creationism holds that not only was the Judeo-Christian God Yahweh responsible for the Universe, but that it all happened in six days, 6000 years ago.
In the Young Earth Creationist worldview, it is not only un-Good and impossible to believe that differing views can be welcomed into the brotherhood of faith, but fundamentally, if we oppose fundamentalist Creationism, we are apostate, dangerous puppets of a diabolical plot, and quite possibly unsaved to boot.
Creationism however (the AIG flavour at least) does expect a natural explanation for any phenomena, unless there is no possible explanation as such, at which point it would invoke God as the cause.

YECs), vehemently reject most of modern science, on the basis that it contradicts their own version of Christianity, which is based on a strict literal interpretation of the Bible (and in particular, the early chapters of Genesis).
YECs believe that the Universe, and therefore the Earth and all on it, including Humanity, were created by the Biblical God, Yahweh, in only six days approximately 6,000 years ago.
Unlike YECs, Ross accepts the Big Bang and the antiquity of the Universe and the Earth (he was an astrophysicist before turning to theology) but he largely accepts the YEC viewpoints on the validity of Theory of Evolution and the origins of Humanity.

Well, if YEC adherents would admit that their position is an interpretation of the Biblical text, and acknowledge that not all sincere, committed Christians accept this interpretation, then this article would be fairly pointless and both sides would be doing a better job of pointing out the certain, undeniable truths that we all believe in.
The assumption of YEC adherents is that the Bible specifically teaches the views that they hold regarding the how and when of God's creative acts.
If YEC adherents cannot honestly answer this challenge (and none have yet) and if they accept the principle of Sola Scriptura --that the Bible alone is authoritative and infallible-- then they have no right whatsoever to demand that all Christians adopt the YEC position.

The progressive creationists and the young earth creationists agree on a key point: namely that natural processes and ordinary providence are not adequate to explain the world.
The fact is, however, that the question of the age of the earth and the universe, while an important question in its own right, is quite independent of the question of creation or evolution, at least as far as the facts of science are concerned.

 Young Earth Creationism: essential theology?
There are two main questions about origins — "What is the age of the earth?" and "Was there a totally natural evolution of all life?" — and [old-earth creation is not the same as old-earth evolution] so it is wrong to imply that "old earth" means "evolution".
Unfortunately, when a person who believes "if the Bible is true, the earth is young" looks carefully at the strong scientific evidence for an old earth, they may conclude that "since the earth is not young, the Bible is not true," and faith is weakened or abandoned.
B) If a person who thinks the Bible requires a young earth examines the scientific evidence and concludes "the earth is old," another conclusion may be that "if the Bible is wrong about the earth's age, maybe it's also wrong about the rest," and faith is weakened or abandoned.

Is Young Earth Creationism a Science?
It is probably fair to say that the differences in perception regarding what science is or should be between supporters of YEC or ID and the academic community or the wider lay population is due in part to a misunderstanding, or at least an incomplete understanding of what science is and does.
The YEC hypothesis makes very clear and very specific predictions about the numbers of possible tree rings, the numbers of possible river varves, the numbers of possible layers of Greenland ice, the maximum percentages of daughter isotopes derived by decay of radionuclides, etc. etc.
At this point, YEC research is primarily an effort to show that, even though all of the different YEC predictions fail to be met when we actually collect the data, the YEC hypothesis must still be true because the bible implies that it should be.
