Young Frankenstein - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Young Frankenstein is a 1974 comedy film directed by Mel Brooks, starring Gene Wilder as the title character.
Travelling to said estate in Transylvania, Frankenstein meets his comely new lab assistant Inga, along with the household servants Frau Blücher and Igor (who, after hearing Frederick claim his name is pronounced [fʀɔŋkεnstin] counter-claims that his is pronounced [ajgo:] "eye-gore").
The scene in which Frankenstein's fiancée arrives in a carriage and is helped to the door by Igor is cut several times, unusually as the scene is relatively short and covers little physical or story grounds.

Frederick Frankenstein (Gene Wilder) is a descendant of the infamous Baron Victor Frankenstein, creator of artificial life in Mary Woolstonecraft-Shelley’s classic novel.
"Young Frankenstein" is Mel Brooks’ and Gene Wilder’s homage to the classic Universal "Frankenstein" movies and filmmakers of silent horror movies like Lang, Dreyer and Murnau.
"Young Frankenstein" is this gem in Mel Brooks’ crown, and still ranks as his best film ever.

A quarter-of-a-century has passed, and "Young Frankenstein" is still as potent and funny.
The back story of "Young Frankenstein" is so strong and pure that co-writers Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder can dangle the most outrageous joke on it and not look foolish.

Boyle's performance is legendary, and the image and sound of Frankenstein's Monster in a tuxedo vocalizing his garbled version of the song's title represents one of the funniest scenes in comedy history.
Parodying elements of Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, and Ghost of Frankenstein, the film features Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, a teaching neurosurgeon and grandson of the legendary Victor Frankenstein.
In fact, Young Frankenstein was shot in the same castle using the same lab equipment and props used in the 1931 original.

Young Frankenstein is one of those movies that you run across on television, watch for while, turn the channel, go right back to and end up begging everyone with you to "Look, watch this scene, it's hilarious!" until you watched the whole thing.
Young Frankenstein follows the bumbling exploits of the original Frankenstein's grandson (Gene Wilder) as he attempts to revive his namesake's vision of reanimation.
Young Frankenstein is one DVD that I am more than happy to announce has been reanimated in all of its fl and white gory - I mean glory (sorry, can't help it).

Although "Young Frankenstein" takes the appearance of a mad-cap horror movie, on many levels I think it was intended as a parody on soap operas.
Frankenstein wants to get out of the evil experiment business, but when a mad scientist, Dr. Pretorius, kidnaps his wife, Dr. Frankenstein agrees to help him create a new creature, a woman, to be the companion of the monster.
How: In "Bride of Frankenstein", the monster visits the hut of a blind hermit and is taught how to speak, in "Young Frankenstein" this is parodied when he visits the hut of a blind hermit only with more hilarious results.

Young Victor Frankenstein, grandson of the count who started it all, returns by rail to his ancestral home.
Frankenstein quickly returns to Transylvania and the old ancestral castle, where he is awaited by the faithful houseboy Igor, the voluptuous lab assistant Inga, and the mysterious housekeeper Frau Blucher, whose very name causes horses to rear in fright.
Young Frankenstein is as funny as we expect a Mel Brooks comedy to be, but it's more than that: It shows artistic growth and a more sure-handed control of the material by a director who once seemed willing to do literally anything for a laugh.

Moody and menacing Castle Frankenstein, hidden in the misty hills of Transylvania and vacant since Doctor Victor von Frankenstein caused a bit of trouble a while back, is welcoming three new guests.
They're being shown around by the castle's longtime caretaker – the crone-ish Frau Blucher, whose palpable darkness resonates on such a sub-molecular level that whenever her name is uttered anywhere on the premises, it causes horses to rear up and whinny in terror outside.
You could cut together a trailer for "Young Frankenstein" that makes it look indelibly like a serious, dramatic addition to the "Frankenstein" mythos, and it'd still be a must-see.

Borrowing freely from Whale's Frankenstein (1931), Whale's Bride of Frankenstein (1935), Rowland V. Lee's Son of Frankenstein (1939), and the original novel by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks co-wrote an outrageous screenplay that defies a simple plot summary.

Brooks's targets are JamesWhale's "Frankenstein" (1931) and "Bride of Frankenstein" (1935), the first the most influential and the second probably the best of the 1930s Hollywood horror movies.
There are set pieces in the movie that deserve comparison with the most famous scenes in "The Producers." Demonstrating that he has civilized his monster, for example, Frankenstein and the creature do a soft-shoe number in fl tie and tails.
From its opening title (which manages to satirize "Frankenstein" and "Citizen Kane" at the same time) to its closing, uh, refrain, "Young Frankenstein" is not only a Mel Brooks movie but also a loving commentary on our love-hate affairs with monsters.

Shooting in gleaming fl-and-white, with sets and props from the 1930s and appropriate fright music by John Morris, Brooks' cheeky attitude towards the Hollywood past attracted a large audience, turning it into one of the most popular 1974 releases after (what else?) Blazing Saddles.
