Young Marble Giants were TOO GOOD to just get buried underneath a mountain of rock history.
Like the early Feelies, YMG have undramatic lyrics (which obliquely reflect their quiet lives), delivered in a talky, uninspired voice, self-effacingly buried in a mix dominated by "quirky" and soulless rhythm.

YMG were devotees of the minimalist school with two instrumentalists; Stuart Moxham on guitar and organ, and his brother, Phil Moxham on bass.
YMG used a twist of irony and an avant garde sensibility to subvert pop tradition to their own ends.
It appeared that YMG was deconstructing their own music and challenging the listener to unmask the truth lurking between the lines.

 Pitchfork: Young Marble Giants Reunite!
Before crumbling to dust/solo projects after just three brief years and one full-length album together, minimalist Welsh indie-poppers Young Marble Giants managed to leave an appropriately imposing legacy and an indelible mark in the annals of post-punk.
This reunion gig apparently came about at the behest of Domino Records, who are believed to have a reissue of the Giants' lone LP, Colossal Youth, planned for the near future.
Young Marble Giants, meanwhile, haven't exactly been strangers-- the original trio of Alison Statton, Stuart Moxham, and Philip Moxham, along with honorary fourth Giant Andrew Moxham, reconvened back in 2004 at Wales' BBC Radio studios for a documentary shoot.

 ToxicUniverse.com - Young Marble Giants - 1980 (reissued 1994) - Colossal Youth Music Review
Young Marble Giants made marching music for amputated plastic soldier figurines—no—escape themes for hyperactive infants scratching at the vinyl siding of their high-walled cribs.
The truth is, Young Marble Giants were a Cardiff, Wales trio who made one album, Colossal Youth, released in 1980 (and one subsequent EP, Test Card, which is tacked on to the end of the CD), and broke up shortly thereafter.
And the organ would be well-suited for the score of a drive-in sci-fi picture show—something with giant turtles and screaming women in paisley skirts, no doubt.

Alison Statton was the voice of Young Marble Giants, and in some ways her work with Spike is like a less pop/rock more jazz/pop Young Marble Giants.
In between Young Marble Giants and taking the Alison Statton and Spike name, both artists were part of the band, Weekend, which released La Varieté (1982) and the ep Live At Ronnie Scots (2003).

Young Marble Giants - Salad Days (Vinyl Japan ASKCD113)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-28)
Playing within a minimalist musical landscape, the YOUNG MARBLE GIANTS used Phil's superb, lyrical bass playing, Stuart's twangy/scratchy guitar and reedy organ, and Alison's sweet, harmonic vocals to achieve critical acclaim for this album 'Colossal Youth', as well as a no. 3 indie chart position with their follow-up EP 'Testcard'.
At this point, the band decided to go their separate ways, but not before having provided the inspiration for a generation of indie, pop and experimental bands and musicians.
These tracks in fact predate their first album, and are nothing less than historical documentation of the beginnings of a band that was to have massive impact on many of the bands of the last 2 decades.
